Officials say conditions in the United States are improving steadily as production rises and prices stabilize, despite Europe’s slow reconstruction. March exports reach new highs in iron and steel, wool, oil, automobiles, and non ferrous metals, with notable gains in cotton cloth and foodstuffs.
A late night gunless game behind 922 Seventh Street SE ended with Jasper Smith stabbed in the hip and shoulder and two men John Martin and Grant Beasley jailed on charges of assault with intent to kill. Smith is hospitalized in serious condition as police probe the incident and players deny involvement.
John Keller was arrested Saturday in Canal Fulton for possessing liquor and pled guilty before Judge Ake Monday. He was fined $1000. Deputy sheriffs who raided his residence found homemade beer.
Judge R H Day cautioned the Starkee grand jury to ignore outside reports and base findings only on evidence presented. Detective Joseph Pence faces a second degree murder charge for the killing of Tom Laskaris, owner of a business in Columbia Heights, Massachusetts. Jurors began work Monday and will sit most of the week.

Carpenters brick layers plumbers and plasterers did not report for work while contractors demanded a 12 percent cut. Bakers in sixty of fourteen shops also began a strike when the old scale was not renewed. eight employers renewed the agreement.
Washington May 1 Forces of the federal government reported no May Day disturbances. Attorney General Daugherty and Justice Department officials found no outbreaks likely as labor strikes and coal disputes showed little chance of violence. Cabinet members faced no mailed threats, and officials noted war animosities were fading with fewer causes for unrest.
Canton Bridge company began erecting 60 foot radio antenna towers on the Daily News roof to house the first wireless station in the Canton district. Moock Electric Supply Co. will install Westinghouse equipment with a 36 mile broadcast radius and a studio for artists and speakers on the upper floor. The station will use the call letters WWE after government license approval.

John Roman testified in criminal court that he was struck and assaulted after a dispute over a Market Avenue right of way. He showed a swollen eye and facial cuts. Police investigation linked the incident to a disagreement with a Market Avenue car, which won the argument. Roman received a $10 fine plus costs for intoxication.
