Red Cross to Start Nursing Classes in Canton

Canton Red Cross plans to run nursing courses for women and a men’s course as war preparation. The new Vicary building workroom opens Friday for sewing bandages and hospital supplies. Norman Raff, general chairman, says the society will form a board of directors and push work nationwide.

Hold up near police station ends with victim striking back

Dr. F A Vrooman of 133 Cleveland was held up within 150 feet of the police station by a teenage assailant. Vrooman struck the robber with a hard blow to the jaw, sending him to the sidewalk before he fled. The thief, about nineteen or twenty, was described by Vrooman as of medium build.

Sons of Veterans Plan Regiment in Stark County

The Sons of Veterans of Stark County plan to organize into a 48 company regiment with city camps. A Canton group held a meeting to recruit across the county and begin drilling immediately, offering service to the government once trained. Dr. T G McQuate stated the aim to show they can fight as their Civil War fathers did.

SUB SINKS BRITISH BARK NEATH IN ATLANTIC TORPEDOING

Washington reports two more Americans jeopardized after a German submarine torpedoed the British bark Neath without warning. The vessel sank in seven minutes and the captain was taken hostage. Naval officials believe British warships captured the submarine responsible.

English Women May Get Ballot

London March 29 The war has won British women the promise of the ballot. A bill recommending enfranchisement will be drawn up after Easter recess, with Lloyd George and Premier Lloyd George supporting the move. Some radicals doubt action will be swift, fearing delay on other issues.
