Mildred Bergt of 512 Madison SE fired four shots with a revolver as Jack Derick hurled bricks through windows at 2 am Tuesday. A stray bullet struck boarder William Rodgers in the right leg. he was taken to Aultman hospital with a not serious injury. No arrests were made and police exonerated the woman.
The forecast calls for rain and much colder weather in Ohio tonight with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain or snow flurries in the east. Temperatures will drop from yesterday's evening reading as a strong cold front moves through the area.
New York police commissioner Enright rescinded a 12 hour old order banning women from smoking in public venues. The rule, born from a clerical mix up and linked to Alderman McGuinness, caused hotel and restaurant concern yet drew hotel owners’ support. A damaged line notes a reward near Lincoln market.

Washington March 28 Government prisons will entertain more guests in 1922 than last year. Crime waves have greatly increased populations in all federal penitentiaries. At Leavenworth the average is about 1750 prisoners, with numbers rising to 2500 by June end at the current rate of increase.
Sixteen streets form the 1922 improvement plan approved by the council. Streets ready to advertise include Bedford av SW and NW sections, 18th st NW, Yale av, Hoover pl NW, Savannah av NE, 17th st NE, 12th st NW, Young av SE, 15th st SE SW, and Cherry av segments. Additional streets to be advertised in 1–6 weeks include Harrison av SW, 9th st NW, 8th st NW, Monroe av NE SE, Shorb av NW, and Tyler av SE. Plans are also under way for paving 19th st NE from Market av to Superior av.
The House adjourned in memory of Representative Lucenn W. Parish Democrat who died from injuries in an automobile accident. A resolution of condolence was adopted unanimously.

He denied the charges in toto and corroborated alibis, detailing his life as a gambling house operator while confirming a January 23 visit to his lawyer's home. He admitted storing liquor at a Madison Square Garden site and said he bought it before prohibition to avoid embarrassment. The case may go to the jury tonight.
Judge Bowman sentences Ed Simuel to 60 days in the workhouse after a guilty verdict on carrying concealed weapons. Simuel was arrested last Sunday with a revolver and 17 boxes of cartridges. Additional rulings include F. C. Cooper fined 25 dollars, Clyde Wilson’s assault case continued, Joe Burns fined 100 dollars for transporting liquor, and deferred disposition for Rose Merrill and Mary Bell.
Fifty-one percent of property owners sign a petition to council for Gibbsay street car line. City insists N O T must live up to its franchise. Line length estimates vary from 12 000 to 18 000 feet. Residents urge bus service as alternative. Solicitors will verify petition and survey opinion.
Charles Barnes of Wheeling was sentenced to one to 15 years in the Ohio penitentiary for his role in a diamond robbery last October after turning state's evidence. Accomplices Frank Langley and Charles Gordon received minimum terms of 10 and five years. Virginia Burns, wife of Charles, completed a 30 day sentence for receiving stolen property and will return to Wheeling. Florence Blechele contralto set for Canton Women's Club recital March 30 at 8:15 p.m.

Harry Humes was freed from the workhouse Monday afternoon on recommendation of Juvenile Judge Ake. He served over six months for contributing to delinquency of young girls. Release approved by the U S department of justice after a long probe into his alleged link to the murder of Paul Kr Kiteig at Mevers Lake that summer.
Indianapolis March 28 telegraphic orders from United Mine Workers poised to halt mining nationwide. John L. Lewis to arrive to issue instructions for dec drop of tools at midnight Friday. A formal nationwide suspension call has been mailed.
The United States faces a nationwide coal strike next week. A geological survey with the department of commerce reports about seventy million tons of coal in reserve. Major public utilities could run for 53 days after the strike begins.
Columbus report clarifies that Attorney General Daugherty did not supply arms to the Athens or southern Ohio National Guard units. Adjutant General Florence says no trouble is anticipated from the threatened coal strike but militia will be ready if needed. The Athens infantry company is fully equipped and has been for three years.
On Wednesday Thursday and Friday each week the city will flush water mains to relieve iron deposits. Residents should draw water before 7 a.m. on flushing days for drinking and cooking. Flushing continues until the entire city mains are flushed. L. B. Obliger, Supt. Water Works.
At a Monday night council meeting J P Cusack fight promoter accused Mayor C C Curtis and the boxing commission of bias granting permits to one club for bouts in the city auditorium. Mayor Curtis and Safety Director RE B Curtis defended themselves as spectators watched a heated, drawn exchange ending with Councilman Ernst acting as referee.
Rev. I C Cooper of Trinity United Evangelical Church said the Canton Presbyterian association learned that Connecticut Henry L French would introduce a resolution to prohibit boxing in the city auditorium. A five member committee was appointed to attend Monday evening to hear the discussion but the resolution was not brought up. Cooper did not know what action, if any, would follow.

The site near Nimishillen valley was approved by health boards and most Canton physicians, with construction plans to stay around $60,000. Officials aim to have buildings ready by early fall.
