The American oil tanker Paulsboro engaged a German U-boat on March 1 in heavy fighting that left the submarine sunk and the vessel damaged and in distress. Chief Gunner's Mate Reiter of Menominee, Mich., reported shells blasted near crew positions as both ships exchanged fire. The U-boat disappeared bow first after rapid fire from Paulsboro's guns.

Women Use Manicurist's Knife In Jail Escape Attempt
