Floods and fire engulf Dayton as the Grand reservoir at St Marys bursts. Residents flee while rescue boats aid refugees on the south shore amid gale and blizzard conditions. Death toll rises and coffins are insufficient for the victims.
Columbus dispatches report that operator Bell at the Dayton telephone exchange building said the fire reached his post and forced him to abandon his position as Gov Cox received updates on the developing blaze from the same location.
A compiled list names flood victims across multiple cities and states. Entries include Mrs Lacy Abel and Anton Saettel in unspecified locations, along with numerous families and individuals such as Florence Bish, John Hadkins, George Dike, Fred Burr, and Edward Hawley. An unknown number of unidentified women and men are also listed, with several households noted by surname and family size.
