The city council revised a local ordinance to align fines with state liquor laws after municipal court penalties for Crabbe act violations exceeded the $500 state limit. Some fines reached $1,000 and even $2,000. the state maximum is $1,000. Citizens fined beyond the cap cannot seek rebates.
Gilbert DeVarmon, 14, last summer’s Canton city marble champion, has entered the contest to earn a trip to Ocean City New Jersey. The Canton Daily News and Canton Recreation Council sponsor the event, with Gilbert as the first entry received.
A warm Monday in Canton sent the temperature to a yearly high of 82 degrees before a sharp Tuesday drop to 19 with a 43 degree swing. Washington March 26 The fourth day of search for the missing Sikorsky amphibian plane opened with renewed vigor. Airmen said unless the craft is located today there is little hope for the four aboard to survive. Three Curtiss Ireland amphibian planes joined the search, flying at 10 20 and 30 miles from shore. Weather forced yesterday’s sea sweep to be postponed.
W. J. Frey and Charles White of Canton were elected to state offices of the Disabled American Veterans Association at the Columbus meeting.
