W G Robinson district representative of the Playgrounds and Recreation Association of America spoke in Canton to advisory Canton Playground Commission. He cited leisure time in larger communities, lack of playlets due to traffic, and surplus energy of working adults as key issues.
Fifteen hundred U S marines were landed in Shanghai at the request of the American consul general to safeguard American lives and property as chaos grips the city after Cantonese forces occupied Shanghai. The municipal council declared emergency and clashes with Northern troops and rioting among cotton mill workers followed.
Ohio tops states in new domestic electrical connections and ranks fifth in total power consumers. In 1926 the state added 75,000 wired homes and 106,000 commercial lighting customers, with 890 power consumers, reaching about 1,274,358 light and power users by January, a gain of 86,495 since 1924. Across the nation 1.5 million new light and power customers were added in 1926, with 83 percent residential, totaling about 19.6 million customers. Ohio remains highly industrial, employing 1,079,000 more in manufacturing and mechanical trades than in any other sector, while agriculture is the second-largest employment source with 421,000 workers. Mining employs 79,000. mercantile trades 290,609. public service and transportation 237,000. professional 132,000. domestic service 184,000. clerical 211,000.
Bailiff H W McIlwain receives a long vacation letter from Judge Charles Richbaum near New Orleans. The first note contains a pressed flower, the second a biicasom, the third says he cannot send songs of birds. A second letter from Judge Erich-Um notes summertime in Louisiana with corn six inches high and vegetation in summer verdure.
Fifteen hundred American marines landed in Shanghai at noon to protect international settlements. Rioting followed the Cantonese seizure of the native city with fires and shots at foreigners and Chinese. Foreign defense forces along with Japanese French Spanish and Italians reinforced as a general strike and revolutionary flags appeared.
Alliance officials report Miss Mildred Davis, 14, who was struck in bed by a hammer during a home invasion in N Rock Hill, will be operated on to relieve pressure from skull fractures. Police have yet to locate the assailant as investigators await her recovery for questioning. The intruder entered through a cellar window, taking a fountain pen and $1.80.
Frank Nunamaker and Sam Day will be taken to Lima Tuesday to be confined in the state hospital for the criminal Insane. Nunamaker was arrested after he terrorized residents of Toursyville with three huge revolvers. Day was arrested on a charge of passing worthless checks.
Police report burglars entered the residence of Dr C Crane at 1544 Market av N during the night. The family was away in Florida, so no list of stolen goods is available. Officers planned to investigate Monday.
Six people were seriously injured and many more hurt as a collision occurred between the westbound Southern Pacific train Argonaut and a freight train at Cortera Arizona, about 15 miles west of Tucson.
Police report Jehu Wuttler of Cherry Ave faced charges after an incident Monday in which he reportedly begged for money and became abusive toward a passerby who refused to give him funds. No further details available.

The U S Supreme Court declared parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota bank tax laws invalid. Wisconsin law imposed higher tax on moved capital of national banks competing with private funds. First National Bank of Hartford appealed to the U S Supreme Court, while First National Bank of St Paul won in state court.
Robert Snyder was arrested Monday on a petit larceny charge after allegedly stealing soap from a grocery at 331 Cherry Ave SE while awaiting the proprietor to bring a can of canned heat.
Earl Carroll, New York theater producer, lost his bid for a write of review in a perjury conviction tied to a February 1924 bath tub party. The Supreme Court denied relief, sentencing him to a year and a day in federal prison at Atlanta and a $2009 fine.
Joe Melrango of Girard filed habeas corpus proceedings Monday seeking release from Starkco work house. Arrested in September he was fined 1200 dollars for possessing and transporting liquor. He claims confinement incommunicado without access to counsel or friends and argues the judge who committed him received fees from the case.
Two unmasked bandits robbed the Bank of Osgood near Greenville, escaping with 2906 dollars after forcing Cashier August Reichert and Assistant Cashier L J Brewer to surrender the money at gunpoint.

Ed. Wertz former United States district attorney at Cleveland appeared Monday for Mrs. Jennie Meadows and Meyer Meadows in a personal injury suit filed by Albert Daureilo. The Daureiro boy lost a leg when struck by a truck owned by the defendants. Trial was delayed after plaintiffs’ attorneys cited absent essential witnesses.
Attorneys for Harry F. Sinclair move for a new trial before Justice William Hitz arguing 20 errors in conviction. Sinclair, lessee of Teapot Dome, was found guilty last Thursday on four counts for contempt of the Senate after an eight hour jury deliberation. The case stems from Sinclair’s 1924 refusal to answer questions from the Senate oil investigating committee.
Charles Abeil aged 45 was killed when struck by a Pennsylvania freight train in Newark. His body was dragged about 1 009 feet according to witnesses.
