Canton officials hear a proposal to centralize bus schedules covering city and interurban lines. The plan aims to help residents track departures, arrivals, terminals, trip times, and fares. Also noted, veterans groups plan a nationwide tribute April 21 to Brig. Gen. Irving Hale for his Manila and Calumpit actions.
The Ohio Dairy Products Association notes milk intake in 14 large Ohio cities rose faster than population. From 1920 to 1927 population grew 20 percent from 2.5 to 3 million while milk consumption jumped 56 percent from 107 million to higher figures, with earlier 1897 and 1920 baselines cited.
Ormond Beach Florida March 17. Will Rogers the cow boy comedian presented John D Rockefeller with a dime at the fifth hole of a golf course after Rockefeller drove 175 yards. Rogers joked about not spending it too fast and the pair then shared breakfast at Rockefeller's home before a round of golf.
Washington reports plan to mobilize 1000 more marines for Central America to secure the Nicaragua election before heavy rains. Marines to be stationed at Quantico and San Diego with possible poll guard duties. President Coolidge backs action, citing prior military presence as beneficial.

A lone bandit robbed downtown Union Trust Co in Cleveland today, issuing a shoot to kill warning and ordering employees to lie on the floor before fleeing with $1000. The event occurred March 17 in the city center.
William F. Hoffman Jr. a 42 year old Columbus auto dealer was killed when his car collided with a truck near Columbus. His four year old son William was seriously injured in the crash occurring last night.
The navy department was notified that the sunken submarine 8 4 would be raised before nightfall from its bed in the Atlantic off Provincetown Massachusetts. The message came from the naval commandant at Boston.
Senator Borah reports growing private donations for a party fund intended to repay Harry Sinclair's 160000 campaign contribution. Washington March 17. A compromise radio bill adopting equal allocation of wave lengths and power among all sections was agreed by senate and house conferees. Senator Dill and Representative White were tasked to draft the measure for final approval at a conference set for tomorrow.
Columbus, March 17. City Treasurer Elmer E. Jenkins faces a likely manslaughter charge after confessing that Clement W Walter, 31, son of the city building inspector, was shot during a desk revolver struggle at a party in Jenkins private office. Walter died Wednesday night. coroner ruled death by own action. Jenkins, denying medical clearance, told City Detective Harry Carson of the chaotic scene before collapsing. He is jailed pending further inquiry.
Senate Interstate Commerce Committee may sponsor a conference between union miners and mine operators to settle the bituminous coal strike. John H. Jones of the defunct Bertha Consumers Co. proposed the meeting, approved by John L. Lewis of the United Mine Workers. Senator Gooding, acting chairman, expects committee support.

Steve Kascholk, a key witness for the state in the Don Mellott murder prosecutions, was to testify in Canton in support of Capt. Ben F. Clarke in the civil service commission Ouster Proceedings led by Safety Director Harry M. Kimbel and Chief Earl W. Hexamer. Clarke also planned to testify in his behalf as the third hearing nears its end. Clarke’s testimony counters Louis Mazer’s deposition from Ohio State Penitentiary. Clarke is represented by attorney W. Bernard Rodgers. The hearing opened Saturday at 1.30 before the commission of Allardice Homan and Eschliman.
Coast guard reports the fishing schooner Morning Star was found 23 miles east of Nauset Buoy near North Truro. Crew is safe after drifting since Thursday with motor inoperative and limited sail power, with only one day of provisions aboard. Bonham to tow the Morning Star to Provincetown. distress had been reported off Chatham earlier.
London March 17 The pari mutuel betting machine bill for British racetracks was given its second reading in the House of Commons with a 149 to 144 vote. It would tax an estimated one million dollars bet on horses yearly and prompted a cabinet split over its desirability.
