In New Castle on March 15, defense lawyers argue the bullet that killed State Trooper Brady Paul is missing. Testimony shows the undertaker removed the bullet and gave it to the sheriff, then it was labeled mislaid. The defense cites the absence as a tactic, while witnesses recount the bullet’s path through a garage in Wheeling and prior rental details.
Mrs. Maggie D. Vernon, 54, wife of Eugene TH. Vernon, killed Saturday morning when struck by a northbound car driven by Matthias Daubenspeck, 70, near Cleveland and 40th streets NW. Daubenspeck and passengers uninjured. witnesses say speed was not excessive. Vernon died before ambulance arrived. body taken to Mercy Hospital and Whitticar Funeral Home. Survived by husband, two daughters, two sons, and two brothers. Deputy sheriffs investigated.
Residents of Edgefield north of Canton meet at Edgefield School to decide on incorporating as a separate village. Over 150 residents attend with County Commissioner Ned L.
