In Columbus Ohio on March 14 four veterans bumped into each other in Governor Cox's office. Brigadier General X Zimmerman Major John M Bingham and Major H M Johnson and Captain Tom Jones, all from the 37th Division, had not met since the western front.
Telegram confirms Private Allen Smith has landed in New York after nearly a year overseas. He served as a railroad engineer with the 53rd Company of the 56th Engineers based in Bassen France and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A R Smith of 1311 Second Street SW.
One carload apples grown at home will be sold Friday and Saturday at 1230 Tuse, E Ady. Potatoes sold in bags or by bushel. At Brest the first units of the 37th American division, composed of Ohio national guard troops, sailed home after a ceremony. Major General C. H. Farnsworth received the knight commander of the legion of honor, and his chief of staff Colonel Herbert J. Ewelvetree was named knight of the legion. Sergeants Barnett Arnott McKinley Hull Walton and Flakner earned gallantry medals. Camp conditions are excellent and Brest works to speed the return.
Warren Sheffler 18 and Ed Myers 19 confessed to luring taxi driver Joe Staufken to Edgefield, beating him, stealing $5 and a car on December 29. Detectives say the two Canton bandits, with past escapades, were arrested after returning to Canton. Staufken, of Massillourd, worked for M. and M. Taxi Co. The case led to continued investigations and further arrests.

Officials say the Thirty-seventh Division will sail from French ports between mid and late this month and be home within about three weeks. A seven to nine day advance notice will precede sailing. arrival location likely New York or Newport News. Cantonians plan to greet them in early April.
Carl A. Most, son of Mr and Mrs John Most of Massillon, died of pneumonia overseas February 24 while with the Army of Occupation. He served in the St Mihiel and Argonne drives with Company B 15th Machine Gun Battalion 5th Division, trained at Camp Gordon, and went overseas July. He left Massillon May 28, 1918 and died twelve hours after a letter home.
The ad notes 500 Metropolitan Stores closed for repairs after a wall separating them from Isaac Harter & Son bank is condemned and torn down. It promises a reopening with big sale values and urges watch for announcements. Also advertises eye examinations without drops by Geo. Double Co and announces Eagle Hall dances with Norwood's orchestra during Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays. It mentions Baby savings accounts offered free by The First Trust & Savings Bank.
The insurgent faction won 25 to 2 in Stark County selecting James K. Finefrock to replace W S Temple as board member. The move signals a shift away from Armstrong rule and portends loss of control for Pontius and Myers as reorganization set for Saturday amid near riot atmosphere and strong debate over textbooks.
Berlin report quotes General Ludendorff repudiating a New York American summary of his book. He says the statement alleging sole Kaiser responsibility for unrestricted submarine warfare is false and that the publication has no knowledge of his book.

Emile Cottin appeared before the third war council in Paris on a charge of attempted homicide with premeditation from ambush. Government prosecutor Captain Mornet demanded the death penalty. Premier Clemenceau is listed as a witness and may request life imprisonment.

Edleman’s Jazz Orchestra will headline a McDowell Club event at Trinity Reformed Church arranged as a benefit for France. The concert replaces the Courtland Hotel venue and will take place on March 14 with advance tickets available.

Sherlock, Canton superintendent, cited no official word from Columbus though press dispatches said funds were lacking. Director General Densmore expects 780 offices cut to 56 with no direct worker for returning soldiers. Local hope hinges on state action to preserve Canton office. The Canton office, opened in May 1917, has been under government control for months.
Hans Sulzer the Swiss minister to the United States asked his home government to relieve him of duties in Washington so he can return to private business in Switzerland. No reply has been received.
