Washington reports say officials expect a virtually certain strike by soft coal miners. Secretary Davis pushes for a 1920 pact conference while operators press for 1917 wage scale. With coal stocks high, nonunion mines could supply 4 to 6 million tons weekly, delaying the impact.
An audience of at least 500000 heard William Jennings Bryan address a Pittsburgh church via KDKA radiophone. Bryan said it was the largest audience he had ever spoken to, and Canton radio owners tuned their sets to listen with interest.

Canton police traced a woman who sold a large diamond ring believed from the February 19 Hotel Statler robbery in Cleveland. The ring valued at 500 dollars is said to be in the possession of a fence in Canton, while a suspect was held in Cleveland. Other cases include Richard Splain’s assault sentence, John Duma’s burglary term, and Nick Poppa’s probation for concealed weapons and related offenses.
Commissioner J Frank Booth said repairs to the Justus cut-off have left it in good condition. A 1900 foot long new road built last summer to reduce dangerous crossings received slag dressing but winter weather degraded it to mud holes. Last week 11 slag-filled cars were hauled in for an excellent surface. This is the only unpaved section between Canton and Dover. County wants paving, but township trustees refuse to pay their share.

Chicago March 13 The United States Railroad Labor Board ordered railroads to show the total of proposed wage reductions as shopmen opened their defense against the cuts. Labor member A Wharton requested the exact amount of the cuts after shopmen charged the railroads with violating the transportation act.
