Key West Florida March 10 An international group of bootleggers has formed a conspiracy to smuggle liquor into the United States via Florida Federal Prohibition Chief Seymour Lowman announced after surveying liquor conditions in the state The finding underscores ongoing law enforcement concerns over illicit imports and organized crime in Prohibition era Florida.
Police questioned two suspects after Mrs. Helen Johnston 60 was found dead in her guardian's Cleveland home. The guardian, W. S. Lloyd, said he left for 20 minutes and returned to find her body by a bathtub with half her clothes missing. An upholstered chair she had sat in earlier was burning.
Columbus reports that Prosecutor Chester will seek a grand jury session to indict guard Oren Hill and his wife Lucy for aiding and abetting an escape attempt by John L. Whitfield from the state penitentiary. Whitfield, a life man for murder, escaped after a battle, was wounded, captured, and Hill confessed to accepting a $2000 bribe and a farm near Akron for the escape plan.

Washington March 10 The United States supreme court will not interfere with a Wisconsin supreme court decision denying New York and Mutual Life Insurance Co a tax refund of about 75000 for 1917 to 1921 The court after hearings declined to hear the state s attorneys and indicated it would dismiss the appeal for lack of a substantial question The companies challenged the Wisconsin reciprocal and retaliatory insurance laws.
