Two habeas corpus suits were filed in Stark county common pleas court seeking release of prisoners held for fines and fees imposed by mayors. The suits challenge legal viability of local fee courts and question judges’ pecuniary interest in convictions.

Princeton authorities investigate the death of Andrew Croft 20 son of a Columbus physician after his car left the road between Hocky Hollow and Kingston about five miles northeast of the campus. He was found by motorists and died before aid could be given at Princeton Hospital.
Albert Frick 22, once called the living dead man, shows slight improvement in Evanston Illinois as doctors report active palate and brisk pulse. A 93rd hour of paralysis threatened his breathing while 66 Public Service Company of Illinois workers kept him alive by artificial respiration. Frick’s condition remains uncertain with doctors warning of a long, uncertain recovery unless respiration and heart endurance hold. He speaks intermittently directing care and asking for his brother Carl.
Beverly Hills readers joke about President Coolidge taking a farm assignment to prove relief for farmers. A columnist offers his own farm for the experiment, arguing that if he succeeds the president would be seen as a magician rather than a leader.
Chief of Police John H. Wise acting for Mayor 8 M Swarts warns newsstands to discontinue immoral magazines. Officers on beat ordered to arrest dealers failing to remove the magazines from racks. Wise says dealers know the meaning of immoral and risk trouble if they ignore the warning.

Rome March 19 Crown Prince Humberto II of Italy was promoted today to the rank of major in the Italian army.
Obregon rejects circulating reports in the United States that he acts as an intermediary between American oil interests and the Mexican government. He states no official mediation role and dismisses the claims as unfounded rumors.
In Washington on March 10 the Reed campaign fund committee faced new turmoil as two members resigned amid threats of court action to block seizure of ballots in the Pennsylvania electoral inquiry. In Wilmington Delaware on March 10 two men were seriously hurt at the Pent powder factory when 3409 pounds of powder ignited during unloading from a continuous dryer on the fourth floor of the dry house. One man was believed fatally injured.
Fimer Crow of Canton was fined $5 and court costs on a speeding charge filed Thursday.
