Phil J Bernower Dies Sudden in the West
Phil J Bernower 65, a Canton lumberman and civic leader, died suddenly in Hollywood California Friday morning. He founded the Phil J Bernower Lumber Co and served as director of the Chamber of Commerce and president of the Associated Charities and other civic groups. He left Canton Jan 7 for a winter apartment beside his brother John Augustus Bernower in Hollywood. He is survived by wife Mary E and siblings J A Bernower and two sisters. Remains expected to be brought to Canton for burial.

Vancouver youth grilled in murder of 11 year old girl
Police in Vancouver Washington grilled Edward Whitfield 20 in connection with the murder of Anna Nosko 11 whose nude body was found on a hillside at Battleground 16 miles north of Vancouver in the Cascades.
