Violent disorder swept Belfast and Ulster over the weekend with bombs, gunfire, and mobs marching the streets. Three civilians were killed in a Tyrone clash and a child was wounded in Grosvenor Road as soldiers and police used machine guns against rioters.
A Dublin dispatch reports Irish republican army troops in motor lorries invading Limerick to back mid-Limerick and Tipperary battalions in demanding a republic. Officials Griffith Collins and Mulcahy move to quell the revolt as hotel billets are seized.
In Dublin the Irish provisional government told Britain it can handle the revolting Limerick and Tipperary battalions of the Irish republican army. Winston Churchill announced the assurance in the House of Commons.
Walter Schmidt a 31 year old World War II veteran of Alliance collapsed while walking with a friend near his home. He died in the friend’s arms after a brief illness. he served in the 305th Engineers and was wounded in service. His parents Mr and Mrs Chris Schmidt of Alliance survive.
Washington March 6 The Erie railroad company asked the Interstate Commerce Commission for authority to sell 5 million dollars of its consolidated mortgage seven per cent extended bonds due September 1 1930.
