British and French authorities announce the loss of the German submarine U-8 in the English Channel. Destroyers sank it, and its officers and crew were captured. Dover reports confirm the U-8 voyage ended with Allied victory and waves of rejoicing sweep England.
McKinley Post No 25 G A R passed a resolution endorsing state legislators for voting to ban the red flag in parades or display on buildings. The resolution lauds the flag as a symbol of national principles and urges patriotic societies to support the legislature and notify lawmakers and the press.
German submarine U-8 was sunk by a British destroyer and crew landed at Dover. The Thordis reputedly sunk another U boat, and the Dacia is declared a French prize of war. President Wilson and his cabinet focus on international affairs as England’s blockade decree looms. A Berlin official predicts US influence will fail to sway the British war strategy. A captain reports sinking a German submarine in the English Channel on Saturday.
An Ohio reader urged Treasurer Ake to call a spring referendum on a dog tax. He claimed the law was illegal, that a dog was wrongly taxed after he had it shot, and that popular vote should decide if such a tax should exist. He argued rents and other taxes already burden the poor and pressed the issue to be settled at the spring election.

General Manager Currie of the Northern Ohio Traction Co plans to meet city officials Friday or Saturday to discuss new street railway extensions, signing a 2500 dollar contract for a public square comfort station, and pushing the Winfield Way extension into operation. Canton merchants’ signature for 2009 dollars toward the comfort station is hoped within a week to ten days. Officials expect at least one city extension this year, with a proposed Fultabord NW line, while N O T will not build it unless track removal on Oxforday NW is allowed.

A large cameo brooch was reported missing on March 3 near the Hartford school. Miss Emily Wheeler of Hartford school offered a reward at 1200 Market Ave. Four hours after the Canton Daily News notice ran, a girl who saw the ad found the brooch and returned it. Wheeler thanked the finder for returning it promptly.
