Col J R McQuigg commander of the 112th engineers will address Y M C A members Wednesday evening as the annual membership drive opens. Also speaking will be E B Dodge the Newsboy of the Trenches who aided war work in France. The drive aims to boost B Y M C A membership toward the 4000 mark with 300 volunteers organizing to cover about four days of events ending next Monday.
Herbert W. Black 39 secretary treasurer of Shaeffer Black Company died at home from pneumonia after four days illness. Born August 20 1850 in Bolivar Tuscarawas he lived here since school days and helped build the firm founded 1896 with branches in Akron Massillon Alliance New Philadelphia Wooster Niles and more. He leaves widow Luella three children Kenneth Glenn Don and brother Homer E Black. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm at the home with burial in Westlawn cemetery. Rev Henry Nevin Kerst to officiate.

Washington March 4 The Sixty fifth congress adjourned sine die at noon as the Senate, amid a large crowd, took a test vote endorsing demobilization of all American troops in cantonments within 30 days. A bill to allow soldiers to convert war insurance died in the House. President Smiles as he quits the Senate.

Herman Strasser aged 33 of 1455% House 1st SE hanged himself in a jail cell shortly after midnight. His body was found about 12:30 Tuesday by Turnkey Tidwell during rounds. coroner's examination confirmed death. He had been arrested Monday afternoon and was awaiting arraignment on a non support charge filed by his wife. The body was removed to Whitticar funeral parlors. Strasser leaves a wife and her parents in Canton.
About 1 o clock Monday 65 Mt Union girls in Elliott Hall fled in night attire as smoke and cries of fire spread. No fire found. pranksters had entered via first story windows and used smoldering rags to create smoke and laughter outside. mt. Union administrators investigated but could not identify the ringleaders.
