Private C. C. Lawrence Jr. of the 1st Brigade 2nd Tank Service, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Lawrence, arrived in New York by the transport Maui and is hospitalized at Green Hut in New York City. He was gassed on October 3 during the Argonne drive and has suffered illness since, with tonsillitis and lingering effects from gas exposure. He has been overseas over a year and is expected to return to the Maui when able.
The notice predicts fair and warmer conditions with a high around 90 and lower readings near 52. It also advertises millinery sales including trimmed hats from 3 dollars and untrimmed hats from 50 cents at Menelman Millinery Store.

Senator Sherman of Illinois declares in the senate that President Wilson risks usurpation or dictatorship by pledging the United States to a league of nations. He warns that constitutionally the power to make such a pledge may be lacking.
The Canton Aircraft club meets Thursday noon at the Courtland Hotel to discuss the 1918 income and excess profit tax with Wendell Herbruck as lead speaker on practical application. John O E Feller also discusses the auditor role, while George Gary Barnist of Cleveland talks on efficiency through health. The club secretary announced a directors’ meeting Tuesday noon. The trial of Dominic Marfatino and Sam Castanzo on a joint second degree murder charge in Ben Steele case opened before Judge Hubert C. Pontius. Jury selection dominated the morning. Marfatino pleaded not guilty to the indictment. The August 16, 1918 killing occurred as Steele was en route to work in the southeast end amid alleged motives related to aiding authorities in locating foreigners.
