Clark veteran national legislator and Missouri congressman died in Washington after an extended illness. The longtime Democratic leader served in Congress and led the House as speaker earlier in his career. His death marks the end of a prominent era in national politics.
Canton Chamber of Commerce elects T. K. Harris as president with George F. Melbourne and Paul B. Belden named first and second vice presidents. J. M. Markley becomes treasurer and H. W. Luethi secretary as welfare plans for workers’ families are outlined.
The county plans paving the north side of Ton-Massillon Road after state law limits. Work could start soon using workhouse labor with grading by the county ahead of a separate paving contract. Officials estimate total cost near 150000, with most funded by state and local assessments.
Timken Roller Bearing officials announced Ken Co will add about 100 men over the next ten days. Simultaneously a wage cut of roughly 15 percent for shop workers and 5 to 15 percent for office salaries was announced.
Chandler is arrested Tuesday on theft charges after detectives from Washington Hotel recover thirteen bath towels eighteen pillow cases and linens at his home. He previously worked at the hotel and faces a hearing Thursday before Police Judge Bowman.

William Chas. Elder eight year old son of Mr and Mrs Harry M Elder of 1301 Dartmouthay SW was instantly killed when he darted in front of a Sixth st street car at Forestay and Ninth st SW near Cedar school. Motorman George W Canterberry stopped within eight feet as wheels passed over the body. The fire truck raised the car to free him. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
The Canton Moose lodge degree team and officers are invited aboard Mayor Broening’s private yacht in Baltimore this afternoon. Broening, former supreme dictator of the Moose, welcomes them as guests for a trip up the bay, with departure set for York, Pennsylvania at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Mrs. Lizzie Drechsler, aged 52, wife of Otto Drechsler of 1432 Second Street SE, died Wednesday at 12:30 PM from sleeping sickness after a two week illness. Survived by husband Otto, son Theodore, brother Charles Lent, and two sisters. Funeral Friday at 2 PM at home with Rev. W. J. Schoeman officiating. burial in Westlawn Cemetery.

Joe Mandro a former local Italian was arrested Monday in Warren Ohio for stealing a Hudson touring car owned by Steve Costa. Police say the car stolen February 14 was returned to Canton Tuesday night after Mandro had repairs costing 200 dollars made. He faces police court arraignment set for Thursday or Friday.
