Baseball Race Heats Up As Giants Hold Narrow NL Lead

The major leagues show a tight race with the Athletics one game ahead of the Senators in the American and the Giants just a game and a half ahead of the Pirates in the National. The Giants have dropped six in a row while the Reds and Pirates beat Brooklyn, and Luque shut out New York. Roush may succeed Hendricks in Cincinnati, and Kelly's candidacy is uncertain. In contrast the Athletics boast a young roster with experience on the mound while the Nationals field a veteran lineup. Also noted is Ryan’s move from Wisconsin to Northwestern as backfield coach, a purer relief from head coaching pressures.
