In Washington June 15 the Senate delays key food measures amid filibuster charges as consumers pay extortionate prices totaling about $112 million monthly. Officials warn actions by July 1 are critical to avoid a government food bureau stalemate and rising food gambling concerns.
On the Stark Electric railroad chain two board members weigh wage questions as mediators agree to a raise of 14 000 dollars a year starting May 1 1917. Arbitrators J H Alexander and W A Mandy pick a third to complete the panel. Stabbing case against Joseph Kormandy continues as he cannot appear due to injuries.
More than 1,000 people marched in a Flag Day parade through Massillon organized by Canton lodge No. 68 BPO Elks. Participants included Daughters of America, Red Cross nurses, Moose lodge, Red Men, Boy Scouts, Western Union boys, and several bands. Dr. William H. Parker of Cincinnati spoke at Nimisila park, with Thayer's, Massillon, Italian, and Grand Army bands providing music.
