Canton lists men for the draft as nations brace for WWI. Russia and China turmoil widens war but officials believe Germany’s enemies cannot end the conflict. Li Yuan Hung may be ousted as a militarist provisional government gains backing.
The Canton community schedules six major demonstrations for Monday evening with songs, flag unfurling, and a reenactment of Paul Revere to honor enlisted men before the draft. A real Revolutionary War costume will be used as a prop by Mrs. C N Vicary.
The United States readies arrests for anti drafters as nationwide registration nears completion. Officials estimate slackers at about 10,600, with 10 million eligible. Crowder and Gregory declare registration complete. strategy includes penalties to deter evasion and potential exemptions. Militia and citizens to aid in maintaining order.
Two of the world’s newest republics once among the mighty empires are now centers of upheaval. China and Russia show large populations and vast areas with estimates varying on war losses and territorial spans.

Paris cables report the death rumor of Robert MacKenzie son of Mr and Mrs William MacKenzie 803 Cleveland Ave NW is groundless The MacKenzie family confirmed with the American Ambulance Field Service in Boston and Paris telegrams stating Robert is alive and at the front in France He had recently joined the front after months of service training in France.

Two firms incorporated Monday to own and run the McKinley Hotel. Langford Hotel Co purchases the building from W. R. Timken for 200000 dollars and plans immediate improvements. McKinley Hotel Co leases and operates the property for 100000 dollars, lifting a prior ban on a dining room and cafe. Langford, Rommel, Keeler, Rainsberger and McCarty are incorporators. McCarty, Armstrong, McClintock & Rainsberger handled filings.
Springfield Missouri police and hundreds of volunteers combed the Ozarks south of Springfield in a major hunt for baby Lloyd Keet held by criminals said to be hiding in the wild hills. Old woodsmen led detectives toward Coon Holler as a possible refuge while a mysterious message warned of murder if pursuit continued.
Ruth Law, holder of the cross country flight record, may visit Canton to drop literature urging Liberty Loan bonds. Judge Henry W. Harter said efforts would be made to bring her to town, with Cleveland as her starting point Tuesday.

Registrars notified to send in returns and register early. Stark county men aged 21 to 80 will list themselves for the army draft, with officials noting no opposition and urging prompt reporting. Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at all precincts as registrars prepare to transmit totals.
Domenico D Alesio faces competing claims of US and Italian citizenship as both nations assert rights to him. The United States and Italy engage the state department and consular channels to arrange a possible return of the youth, born in the US before his father’s naturalization, now studying in an Italian college. The Italian government may draft him, while a US emergency passport is sought with no guarantee of success.
Mrs. Elizabeth Harter conveyed land adjoining the Market Avenue bank to the First National Bank in a deed filed Monday. The price was listed as $100,000 and other valuable consideration. Atty. G. H Herbruck represented Mrs. Harter and Atty. Austin Lynch the bank in negotiations. The bank plans a larger bank and office building on the site.
