Chicago July 31 rioting flared again in the south side as 6000 troops with machine guns and bayonets tightened the cordon. A mob attacked Black workers seeking to reach the yards as whites drove them through gates into packing towns. Reports vary on fatalities but injuries run high with hundreds affected.
President Wilson weighs drastic measures after a report from Warren G. Stones and the locomotive engineers advisory board warned of rising living costs and unrest among wage earners. The warning urged Congress to curb prices to prevent bread riots and fuel social upheaval.
Eighty three county prosecutors met Governor Cox and Attorney General Price to plan a state wide probe into profiteering and hoarding of food and necessities. Washington July 31 Brigadier General Richardson reports the early embarkation of the entire American force in Russia with a small detachment left for property transfer and disposal of the American dead General Pershing ordered Richardson to withdraw his headquarters and return as practicable
The Pall Mall Gazette reports hopes that the Prince of Wales may extend a United States trip beyond Washington and New York to include a western tour, though official notice confirms a Washington New York focus.

J. B. Miller of Alliance, a state legislator, sent letters to nine Alliance coal dealers demanding the old price be restored within Friday or face prosecution. City part of grading Harrison av and Bryan av SW must be completed first. Burd Construction will begin work, with the extension expected to proceed after months of delay due to traction company city agreement.
The Bethlehem township annual Sunday school picnic is planned for Aug. 2 at Fair's Grove, located two miles east of Na varre. Ady notes the event and invites participation.
In Mount Clemens Michigan lawyer Emiliot G. Stevenson for the Chicago Tribune proposed submitting the case to the jury without argument.
