Reports from Chicago describe escalating clashes between whites and blacks with at least one dead and several wounded as authorities struggle to regain control. Police deployed to zone patrols while mob violence and ambushes disrupt daily life during the ongoing unrest.
Water plant reports a down generator and a second unit idle after Tuesday night outage. Officials say the downed unit could pump about 4,060,000 gallons daily when restored. a repair firm is securing parts. The other generator was still operating on Wednesday afternoon.

Senator Phelan of California asserts Japan is purchasing American oil interests in Mexico to press American protection. He urges the United States to take a strong line south of the Rio Grande to safeguard rights as Britain seeks to absorb world oil, warning no delay is acceptable.
Edwin Robinson nine year old son of Mrs Ward Robinson of 662 Boylanay SE ran into Waynesburg road to retrieve a stick thrown by a playmate. He was struck by P W Mandrell driving east and died from a fractured skull and internal injuries at Mercy hospital. Coroner T C McQuate is investigating. He is survived by his mother four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services not yet arranged.
Washington reports King Albert and Queen Elizabeth will visit the United States arriving late September or early October. They plan an extended tour and will stay with President Wilson in Washington.
The Canton Daily News staff of over 150 boys recounted a Meyers Lake park picnic described as the best ever. Morning races included sprints and sack and wheelbarrow events, with noon feasting and afternoon free rides courtesy of Lake park manager CC V Riddle.
