New York July 22 United Press reports Jack Dempsey knocked Jack Sharkey out in the seventh round amid foul dispute claims. Judges and referee differed on whether blows to the groin occurred and if disqualification was warranted. Sharkey faced the camera as the exchanges continued and the final knockout left Dempsey victorious.
Henry A Roemer resigns as Canton Chamber of Commerce president to accept a top post with Continental Steel in Kokomo Indiana. He has served as chamber director and president and led civic groups including Boy Scouts Rotary Industrial Baseball league and various banks and clubs. Chief John H. Wise led a crackdown on slot machines. Forty-two machines were crushed with sledgehammers and about $4,000 in parts discarded as junk. Forty-one people were arrested and fined. The campaign followed concerns that children were wasting money on games many deemed legal unless proven gambling devices.

Rear Admiral Henry Joseph Ziege meier, son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Ziegemeier, will succeed Capt John Hines as commandant of the Great Lakes Naval Training Station when Hines retires in October. He currently heads the fleet training section of the bureau of navigation after commands in battleship division 3 of the battle fleet. He is well known in Canton and recently visited here.
In Bellefontaine July 22 Joseph Mudd 27 Dayton faces murder charges in the fatal shooting of Asa Ferris. Closing arguments expected as Mudd testifies claiming Ferris grabbed his throat during an argument and the shooting was accidental. Mrs Mudd recounts Ferris’s threats amid plans for a Toledo trip.
In Allentown Pennsylvania a violent street clash between youths erupted as fans referenced boxing champions Dempsey and Sharkey. A barber Harry Kreimser collapsed and died from a heat induced attack during the disturbance.

Charles Kemp 3, a farmer from south of Bremen in Fairfield County, died in a city hospital after a gasoline container he was pouring into his auto tank exploded seriously burning him on July 22.

Coast guard efforts to locate the steamer North Jun after abandoning the boat following collision with the British motor freighter Pacific Trader failed. Reports say the North Jun sank, with thirty seven crew from the schooner taken aboard the Pacific Trader and uninjured. The rescue ship docked here with tug assistance.
