Washington reports a growing dispute between the United States and Great Britain over the British boycott and interference with American mails. Officials anticipate a formal protest after receiving the British order text, with Senate members weighing retaliatory legislation and potential appeals from affected firms.
N O T officials announced after the utilities commission allowed bond issues that the Belden ay NE extension will be in service by December 1. The line will exceed a mile. construction of an additional two and a half miles is planned before the end of 1917 if materials arrive on time.
Canton council may bill the Canton Cemetery Association for back water rentals amounting to hundreds of dollars. City officials want the association to open 12th Street NW, now blocked by its land, as part of settling the debt and improving a key traffic corridor between Canton and Massillon. Mrs R W Sheets wife of Lincoln sheriff and one of his deputies traveled from Chicago to Lincoln Illinois with a prisoner in custody. She carried the key to handcuffs in her stocking and an automatic pistol in her reticule. She warned the prisoner not to resist or she would shoot him in the foot.
W A Pietzcker Massillon service director and Howard M C Yost Massillon city engineer were seriously injured when their car left Canton Massillon road. Pietzcker and Yost suffered leg injuries, while service clerk McLaughlin and auditor Krisher were only slightly hurt. The car struck a telephone pole and then veered into the road’s edge before being moved to Massillon for treatment. All are improving.

R W Carnahan manager of the Grand Army band of Canton announced Saturday after a concert on the city hall lawn. About 1500 people stood or sat in automobiles along nearby streets to hear the program. Applause was generous.

James Alfonso aged 75 and Gastone Gentle aged 72 fought with knives over a girl they both loved before serving with Garibaldi in Italy. The pair, who had not met since the wars in Sicily over fifty years ago, were in a critical condition today after the duel.
