Mrs. J H Beatty of Cleveland ay NW won the leading woman tier with 31517 votes while Tip Conroy of Prospect AR SW led the leading man contest with 24635 votes. The Canton event drew crowds of ballots, packing the News office as boxes and sacks filled with votes were counted. A movie show director will select themes and locations for a Canton only cast film to be shot the week of July 26 two contestants may be asked to dramatic stunts for the production.

Miraculous Escape for Big Liner Ordunna At Queenstown
The Cunard liner Ordunna with 220 aboard survived a torpedo and shell attack by a German submarine 30 miles off Queenstown. Captain T. M. Taylor navigated to safety after eight shots were fired, with 22 Americans onboard and many women and children among the frightened passengers.

Attempt to Kill Frank Attacked by Prisoner at Milledgeville
Leo M. Frank, life prisoner for Mary Phagan murder, was stabbed in the neck by fellow inmate William Green at Milledgeville prison. Green, also serving a life term for murder, struck from behind with a butcher knife. Frank’s jugular vein was cut but spinal cord and windpipe survived. Attack happened shortly after 11 o'clock, officials said.

Heroic farmer shot while protecting woman on porch
William DeVaux 45 of 1216 3rd St SE tried to shield a woman from a tall foreigner wielding a club. The assailant fired three times with a .32 revolver, wounding DeVaux critically as bystanders and Baum aided. The attacker fled after being disarmed.
