Reports indicate postponed negotiations as bandit activity near the border rises. Officials say withdrawal of American ships continues while other vessels stay ready, pending clearer Mexican conditions and Gen. Trevino's status.
Harry M. Daugherty, seeking the Republican U S Senate nomination, tours Canton Massillon and nearby counties. He advocates a protective tariff, immigration reform, and party unity while meeting local leaders and press.
A Sunday string of auto crashes killed ten Ohio residents and injured several others. Victims include Otto D. Carey and family from Hicksville in a collision with a New York Central train near the Indiana line. Albert Scheidler and Alonzo Williams from Leipsic hit by a freight. George A. Smith and spouse from Tippecanoe City struck by an electric line car near Vandalia. Harvey Turner, an Akron jitney driver, killed when his vehicle overturned.
Dairymen from Stark Mahoning and Columbiana counties plan an Alliance gathering to discuss expanded dairy inspection and potential milk price rises. Increased costs for labor feeds and stricter inspections are cited as hurting profits, with Canton noting a 7 cent base price and many markets charging 8 to 12 cents per quart. An alliance to organize likely formation is anticipated.
Showers Sunday cooled Canton after a week of extreme heat. Temperatures ranged from a 36 degree low to 86 at noon with a 77 degree high, while ice dealers faced continued demand. Officials warned another hot spell could follow despite brief relief.
Sanitary Officer Dan Harry returned to work and, with Sanitary Officer Thompson, began a second inspection of 133 barns condemned as insanitary and dangerous last week. They will check that all barns ordered cleaned meet the stable ordinance and report owners not complying. The second inspection will be finished in a few days and prosecutions will follow in police court.

The New Philadelphia branch plant of United Electric Company may be moved to Canton, potentially sending at least 80 workers to Canton. A. J. Tice, general manager here, did not confirm the move, saying no decision had been reached. Eighty five New Philadelphia employees were offered Canton positions. The Canton plant recently acquired Wise Harrold Electric and will continue making electric cleaners. the move likely would not require new Canton construction.
At Camp Willis on July 17 members of company F of the Third, led by Capt. L. S. Conelly of Cleveland, refused the breakfast bread. Fifty loaves were condemned and discarded. The men sought breakfast at local restaurants. The unit includes many Cleveland Grays. Private Schultz, a Middletown recruit, was named bread censor and is a baker by trade.

Charles Schneider of Canton was hit by a passenger train along the W. and L. E. line near Navarre Sunday before 10 a.m. He suffered a fracture of the left ankle and shoulder and cuts to the head. He was taken to Ingleside hospital in Miller-Chanard's ambulance and reported improving Monday.
Sunnyside Electric Co will tap water from two major wells near Beldenay NE to feed a new substation. Ohio Well Drilling Co started the 200 foot deep wells on Monday, 24 inch diameter for the first 100 feet and 16 feet diameter thereafter. City officials will monitor the test as Service Director McClaskey inspects the county infirmary site developing a heavy flow.
Augustus F. Dannemiller first lieutenant U S A son of Mr and Mrs Augustus Dannemiller 634 Marketav N has been promoted to captain He served as first lieutenant in the Twelfth United States Infantry at Nogales Arizona on the Mexican border and has been in the regular army since 1902 He saw service in the Philippines on two occasions and previously as a militiaman in the Spanish American War.
A hog specialist from Ohio State University arrived in Canton Monday and will stay in Stark County this week visiting county pig clubs to aid hog research and offer suggestions for better results.
Canton’s planning commission will face urgent issues including proposals to raise Pennsylvania railroad tracks to remove grade crossings and build a viaduct over West Creek at 12th Street NW. The railroad backs removal, but city funds are scarce. first likely is the Dueber Ave SW crossing.
Police search for a man who shot Joe Gordon at 635 3rd St SE Saturday night. Chief C N Riblet says the wounded man and family know the assailant but will not reveal details. Gordon is hospitalized at Mercy, slight improvement reported.
C E Macy state wiring inspector and Fire Marshal Rollin Haun of Niles arrived in Canton midday Monday and began a three day inspection of buildings. They conferred with Chief R O Mesnar and may focus on commercial structures first. Haun may return during the visit and has ordered remodels for defective wiring under supervision.
Floyd A Logue of Akron and Debbie V Gooch of Vinton were refused a marriage license here Monday on the ground that the bride was a non resident.
Camp Willis patrols tighten as Col. George K. Hunter inspects 13,000 Ohio guards on sanitary, ordnance and troop fitness. Officials expect no movement to the border until his report to Gen. Barry and Secretary Baker is complete. Gov. Willis presses for better travel arrangements.
The N. O. T. places a ban on all rough behavior on street and inter urban cars. Officials say offenders will be prosecuted.
Anna Fetter filed an answer and cross petition to Elias 5S suit denying the charges and seeking a divorce on grounds of cruelty. W S Spidle acts as her attorney.
