The Lengel murder trial opened with jurors examined after a noon recess. Olive Sparks was seated as the sixth juror while others were questioned about bias. If the pace holds, testimony could begin Tuesday with Prosector Harter ready to call the first witness.
In Obert s ville Stark County a barber shop signs stating no haircuts on Saturdays. Theodore Everett, a local practitioner, notes a shift since World War I as soldiers favor safety razors and fewer barber shops keep pool tables. He cites rising business and average daily haircuts around twenty. He also recalls electric cars and golf rule musings by George C. Thomas, contrasting practical changes with tradition.
Leo Grgich is held on liquor charges after police question him in the murder of Max Schlabogan, whose body was found near a creek east of Canton with shotgun wounds. Officials say the killer used a shotgun and fled through dense brush, leaving footprints. Schlabogan, known to work as a man by day and wear women’s clothes at night, had boasted of hijacking on a small liquor scheme.
Geneva. Danger of an immediate rupture of the tripartite naval conference has been temporarily averted. The Vicnary session, set for today, was postponed at the request of W. C. Bridgeman and with consent of other delegations. Official notice said the meeting would not be held today in defer ence to the death of Kevin O’Higgins, Irish Free State vice-president, assassinated yesterday.
Pomeroy July 11 city engineer W McCroba said the landslide along the Ohio River between here and Middleport is ended though rock still fell today. The slide began Friday forcing a detour from State Route 7 which remained closed awaiting highway officials arrival.
Aaron Sapiro expected in Detroit to settle his $1,000,000 libel suit against Henry Ford. Sapiro may seek repayment of prosecuting expenses after Ford's Dearborn Independent accused him of exploiting farmers. Ford apologized. Sapiro's attorney hinted withdrawal if terms reached.
Eighteen National Woman's Party envoys travel from Colorado Springs to Rapid City to urge President Cooker to back swift passage of the equal rights amendment. Gail Laughlin of Maine and Anna Laskey of Oklahoma lead as spokesman figures for the delegation.
Police considered a possible triple murder after a Brooklyn woman reported her daughter Evelyn 14 missing since June 34 from Prospect Place. The inquiry centers on a cellar incident at a Prospect Pine residence and may involve three women rather than two.

Lieut. Col. John Paegelow Lieut. K. Axtater and Corporal H. T. Robinson of Scottville island were uninjured when their army dirigible struck a high tension 83,000 volt line near St Louis. The ship, piloted by Paegelow, landed after motor trouble. a takeoff failed to clear the wire. Sparks showered around the metal craft but the crew escaped electrical shock. The dirigible was damaged but repairable.

The Lengel murder trial opened in Canton before Judge Diehl with cooling measures in place and jurors questioned by defense attorney F Retkin Hahn. Hahn used emotional delivery to probe impartiality, while Lengel’s defense team including W Bernard Hodgere and K W Powell observed. Deputy Sheriff McPeak guarded Lengel as the courtroom filled slowly and spectators listened to the proceedings.
Lieut Samuel Woodfill of Kentucky and York of Tennessee, both Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, are slated as speakers for the American Legion convention opening Sunday.
