President Harding held cabinet talks after a week of delays in efforts to end the paralyzing coal strike and amid growing concern over the expanding railway shopmen dispute. The session focused on how to press settlements without provoking new disruptions, as officials weighed options and timing.
After over two hours of cabinet discussion in Washington on the chaotic industrial scene caused by rail and coal stoppages, the president was to clarify the government's position in a formal statement to the public. The White House would issue it tonight.
The president and advisers face railroad disruptions while coal talks show progress through arbitration. If deputies fail to secure mail, federal troops could guard trains, a last resort echoing earlier Marine deployments to protect mail shipments. Strong actions loom as public safety and government interests converge.
Chicago July 11 The eleventh day of the railway shop men strike shows a deadlocked stalemate with no clear end in sight. Violence is limited and no serious outbreaks have occurred. Union leaders call it a gentle manly strike while Bloomington Illinois and Slater Missouri remain danger points. Traps guard in towns and nearby crowds keep authorities uneasy as troops are sent to New Franklin Missouri to protect.
Medina July 11. Most land in Richfield township and surroundings is leased after drilling to 400 feet hit an oil well producing 75 barrels daily. The oil reportedly compares favorably with Pennsylvania crude.

Secretary of Commerce Hoover announced a Washington meeting to curb gouging by smaller non union coal operators in Pennsylvania and Kentucky districts. He said some firms are charging 50c to $1 a ton above the government and operators' fair price, prompting action to bring offenders into line.
Canton Ohio faces a six month operating bill of 627769.11 with a planned finance plan to cover the deficit. Auditor Barr notes bonds may cover excess operating expenses. The ordinance trims prior six month appropriations by amounts while projecting 135000 from waterworks and auto tax revenues to reduce the net need to 457769. The safety fund shows rises over early 1922 and late 1921 appropriations. An auto tax of 35000 is allocated for street repairs from state funds.
The Bell Telephone company has bought a Lyon Breathing Machine to be kept in the main exchange building at 323 Clevelanday SW and available for use on request by calling Main 1000. A demonstration for Bell employees and officials from fire, police, and others will be held Tuesday evening at 1012 2nd St SW at 8 o'clock.
Last evening the bodies of Mrs Mina Smith 26 and her sister Miss Jessie Parker 22 were found in Sunday Creek near their home in Trindle about an hour after they had drowned. The elder likely went to rescue her sister. the bodies lay within five feet of each other in a few feet of water.

Massillon reports General Jacob Sechler Coxey, famed 1894 protest leader, announces a senate bid on a non partisan ticket. He must gather 21,000 signatures by Sept 1, opening rally in Mt Vernon. His platform centers on money at cost and bonds reform, promising Massillon could save about 22,000 on street improvement bonds.
A threshing engine exploded on the Dale Green farm near Piqua at 10 pm killing Oliver Adams and injuring five others. The dead man was part of the crew and the blast wrecked a nearby house. Injured include Harry Schmidlapp, Dale Green, Kenneth Black, John Godfrey and Elmer Green. three may die. Ref: hospital transfer, severe scalds, possible eye injury.

Reports from Wheeling and Lake Erie offices say no rail shop strikers reported to work as the ultimatum expired. About 100 shop crafts answered the July strike call at Brewster shops, many from the roundhouse. Pennsylvania Co. strikers who resumed work were paid off later by the pay car at Canton and ongoing union meetings continue daily at Tiger hall.
Berlin reports thunder clouds as the Rathenau murder shocks the nation. Labor seeks a defense bill to curb murder gangs, with Bavaria opposing sovereign limits. The Reichs government pledges to act with iron force to preserve the republic and avert civil strife.

Mine operators from every coal producing state and national association directors meet in Pittsburgh at 10 o'clock tomorrow to craft a reply to President Harding's coal strike proposals. Leaders from across the country will discuss position, with speakers from Illinois Indiana Missouri and Kansas among others. Additional figures in the coal world will attend from Oklahoma Denver and Salt Lake City.
The Ohio federation of churches plans to ask all gubernatorial, lieutenant governor, and attorney general candidates for their views on state movie censorship. The group will send a resolution endorsing continued state censorship and opposing Will Hays' view that national censorship would render state controls unnecessary. The federation spans 16 Protestant denominations and about 1,000,000 members.
Eighteen social agencies headed by Canton Welfare Federation urge Governor Davis to buy the Spencer site near Medinac o for a new feebleminded institution. The 1704 acre property with ten farm buildings, crops, and rail access could cost 192495, offset by crops. The move follows a five year recommendation and argues the need to segregate feebleminded and prevent propagation.

Atlantic City July 11 A major raid in Galloway town uncovered a 159 gallon moonshine still in operation. Officers seized seventy gallons ready for export, five barrels of mash, and other gear. Runners reportedly transported liquor nightly to Philadelphia. Arrested men A L Smith of Anderson South Carolina and Silas Allen of Chester Pennsylvania, said to have trained in South Carolina stills.
A boy playing with matches started a closet fire at the C. E. Carnes home 1260 Fultoard NW at 3 35 PM burning all clothing. Early Tuesday at 4 17 AM the Advance Radio Co at 1618 Third St NE had a small fire under a battery bench.
