Private George King 24 of Lexington Kentucky shoots and kills Police Sergeant Chris Kohlhov en in Newport after the officer refuses to release three National Guard companions arrested earlier for drunkenness and bread and milk theft King was later arrested and taken to Covington amid threats of lynching.
Dr. Bar Kropf of 331 Rexar SE was commissioned Tuesday as a second lieutenant in the Veterinary Officers' Reserve Corps. Members of the corps may be called out as needed by the government.
Petrograd reports Russian forces under Gen Kornilov advancing toward Lemberg from Halicz and along the Dneister. Halicz falls as a key railway junction. Cossacks and cavalry push in pursuit while Austro-Hungarian and German units resist. Over 15,000 prisoners taken with many guns seized.
