Boston Billy Williams, linked to Nassau County jewel thefts on Long Island, was shot in the leg and arrested near New London Connecticut after a motor chase. Nassau officials say Detective Gordon Hurley fired the shot, ending the pursuit that began with a tip Williams would travel by car to New London.
John J. Murray, a Stark county prisoner in the Ohio penitentiary, is to be released on parole July 22 by order of the state board of parole but must remain outside the state in the future. Murray was sentenced for burglary and larceny to a term of one to 15 years and has served one year.
Prince Friedrich Sigisman of Prussia, kin of former Kaiser Wilhelm, died after his horse shied at a horse show in Lucerne. He suffered injuries when dragged around the tack and balked.
A cloudburst weakened track in the Hartz mountains caused a train to plunge into the swollen river near Wernigerode Saxony. Nine people were killed and 10 seriously injured as the engine and coach left the rails and bodies drifted downstream.

Rado Millich a former Birger gangster was condemned to death by electrocution for the murder of Ward Jones an opposing gangster. Eural Gowan convicted of complicity received 25 years for his role in the Jones killing linked to the Birger Shelton feud. Jones body was found riddled with bullets near Marion as Charley Birger faces trial in Benton on a murder charge.
Secretary of the Navy Wilbur announced he would not block Commander Richard E. Byrd's planned fall expedition to the South Pole. He noted Byrd could undertake an extended flight with a plane capable of 2400 to 4900 mile ranges to photograph and observe, advancing scientific knowledge.

Baltimore July 7 Six kittens born to a cat owned by William F Dekalb store manager are joined at a point over the hind quarters. Each kitten has a head body and legs and moves in unison causing feeding difficulties for the mother. The kittens radiate from a central point resembling a wheel.
Women officers would visit Canton and Akron to locate girls who sent letters to Dr Homer Thomperon the alleged high priest of a mystic cult. Thompson faces a matrimonial bureau charge as federal authorities plan involvement and postal inspectors may pursue illegal use of the mail. He remained jailed on Harrison Act allegations in county jail on $2509 bail.
Martha Callahan sues for 250490 dollars alleging John P. Callahan accepted money from Lillian Curtis Gillette of Minneapolis to separate from his wife. The couple had lived together seven years in Kansas City before the alleged plot to flee to New York.
Indianapolis July 1 Former Indiana Klan figure D C Stephenson again evades calls to speak on alleged political corruption and his past influence. Marion County Prosecutor William H Remy says Stephenson refused to discuss how he allegedly ran the state alone after a prison visit with Stephen son, now serving a life term in Michigan City.
Chicago July 7 unions and company negotiate a wage dispute for surface lines. The street car company reportedly offers 26 dollars weekly sick benefit and a thousand dollar insurance policy. The union has trimmed its demand from 15 to 5 cents an hour and is ready to compromise at half that amount.
Prosecutor Henry W. Harter Jr and Sheriff Ed Gibson met Warden P E Thomas in Columbus to discuss the Lengel murder conspiracy trial. The visit aimed at sharing information from Don R Mellett case and possible informer leads while Strettenberger is slated as principal witness for the state and Mazer could be called for the defense.
Geneva July. An executive session of President Coolidge's naval limitations conference was convened to discuss the deadlock between the United States, Japan, and Britain over cruiser tonnage. Britain insists on higher tonnage while Japan favors 250 000 tons max for cruisers and 200 000 for destroyers.
