Louis E. Deuble former Canton Chamber of Commerce secretary is appointed secretary of the Peru Indiana Chamber of Commerce and will assume duties July 14. He served 11 years with Canton groups and was a journalist on The Canton Daily News before joining the chamber in 1914. Over 20 applicants competed and Deuble ranked highest on the written questionnaire. He actively participated in World War I campaigns.
In Brooklyn Gaetano Devito stabbed his wife to death after she refused to leave bed to rub liniment on his back. Police found him calmly eating breakfast in the kitchen as two small children whimpered beside their dead mother.
A pension of 300 per month was granted to Mrs Amelia Bricker of 1141 6th Street N W Canton learns from a Washington dispatch received Friday. The announcement credits the pension office in Washington with the action.
Chicago postal inspectors and Winnebago county authorities probe a plot to extort $50,000 from Senator Medill McCormick by threats to kidnap his eight year old son John Medill. Farm workers S George and Clarence Peek were arrested near Rockford after a decoy package was planted at the Byron summer home. They deny involvement, claiming curiosity about the package. Courageous action by Mrs. McCormick led to the trap and arrests.
A double garage near Reedurban burned Saturday morning about 3. Ten thousand feet of hardwood lumber and the garage were destroyed. Company 5 arrived too late to save the building but prevented spread to two nearby houses. The garage belonged to W. C. Marble of Marble Hardwood Floor Co.
Ravenna division engineer F E Swineford said on Saturday that all available trucks have been sent to Lorain to clear storm debris. About 60 trucks and drivers were dispatched, leaving only enough for emergency work in the district. Swineford helped reach Lorain and assist in street cleanup.

Henry Jenkins, 21, a Bergholz coal miner, died at Mercy hospital from leg injuries after his body was crushed under a railroad train near his home. Coroner T. H. Shorb investigated the death as Jenkins claimed enemies threw him under the trucks. Survived by his parents, his funeral arrangements were made through Charles Paquelet parlors and his Bergholz home.

A stray bullet fired during the Fourth of July celebration struck and killed August Wehle, 42, a baker, while at work in a Wheeling plant. Police have not identified the shooter.
Three hundred fifty passengers were rescued when the Steamer Three Rivers burned to the waterline off Cove Point Maryland near the Patuxent during Fourth of July races. Two black passengers, a man and a woman, are listed as dead. The Allegheny Middlesex and another vessel evacuated travelers, including a newsboy on board the Middlesex, with the Evening Sun reporter aboard.
Two men were murdered and a third pillar near death at Mt. Sinai hospital after Fourth of July disputes in and around Cleveland. Victims Andrew Brown was slashed in a barber shop clash and William Sha was said to be killed with his own gun during a heated argument. Suspect Dana Clark, 26, of Redford was wounded by a gunfire in Bedford during a parking dispute. a Bedford man is held for investigation.
