Canton and vicinity plan a Fourth of July celebration with a 48 gun salute at 7 30 Monday morning marking the start of official observances. Battery A of the 125th field artillery will fire the salute from its headquarters near North Edgefield.
Washington reports the first session of the sixty-ninth Congress ends after seven months. Senate and House actions featured late bills, local measures, and wartime compensation. President Coolidge signed 153 measures that day. The piece also notes Canton and Massillon in a regional boundary discussion, with no immediate resolution.

Attorney General Crabbe urged Gov Donahey to dismiss welfare department officials accused of conspiring to defraud the state and soliciting bribes to locate a state institution site. He also asked for permission to pursue grand jury investigations in Wayne and other counties to uncover all facts and indict the guilty. Governor Donahey would act when he returns from Indian Lake.
Curb markets will open at High av and 6th NW and on McKinley av SW between 5th and 6th Friday morning July 9 under the Lincoln Highway Memorial association. Markets will run each Tuesday and Friday for months with Mrs A T Weidman and Mr H E Bair in charge. a small parking fee funds park upkeep and tree planting along the Lincoln highway.
Dover man THUGS GET 47 describes being accosted near the Pennsy station on Market Avenue by two young men who robbed him of $47 late Saturday night.
At intersection of Superioray and Mahoning ro NE an automobile driven by RK Reisinger of the Pennsy YMCA struck a man about 30. The man refused to give his name and walked away. Three autos were involved in a crash at 6th St and Cleveland NW. No injuries. Other crashes on 12th St and Mahoning Rd NE and at 6th St NW noted.
An auto driven by F R Richardson of 1037 Greenfield Ave SW collided with another vehicle at 9th St and Marion Ave SW. The other car fled the scene. Richardson gave police the license number of the driver.
Jim Rose of 739 8th Street NE was arrested late Saturday night on a charge of carrying concealed weapons.
Paris reports twenty killed and sixty injured when the Havre Paris express derailed near Ancheres after a severe storm weakened the tracks by washouts. The crash occurred last night and word reached authorities today.
Harry Cable was arrested late Saturday on charges of being drunk disturbing the peace disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He kicked at Officer Kepler during transport and admitted slapping a young boy earlier in the evening according to a police report.
United Alloy Steel announces cancellation of the mid-summer vacation in its south shops. All employees from mills 1 through 8 must report for work on Wednesday July 7 at 3 30 p m. Officials say five days gained will clear order backlogs and production will stay continuous after the brief holiday.
Los Angeles detectives questioned evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson and her mother Minnie Kennedy for a second time about a $500000 ransom note received before a memorial where $40000 was raised. Police seek if stamps were tampered with and will call witnesses before the county grand jury.
Senator George R. Norris of Nebraska resigns as chairman of the senate agriculture committee while remaining a member. The chair will pass to Senator Charles McNary of Oregon, amid ongoing debate over the Dawes McNary Haugen farm relief bill rejected by the administration.
Canton city council faces extension of the corporate boundaries as the chamber of commerce urges growth beyond current lines. The proposal seeks to bring newly developed districts into the city north and west, extending to the Massillon limit near Reedurban, with further expansions to be studied by committees.

Mrs. F. J. Turner, 83, of 10628 Hunter Ave Columbus, sustained a fractured ring finger on her left hand in a collision between two cars on the Lincoln Highway. She was treated at Mercy Hospital by Dr. Schuffell and later released to go home.
