Great Falls reports word that Jack Dempsey and Tom Gibbons will clash for the world heavyweight crown in Shelby. Jack Kearns accepts 210000 paid and bets on earning 100000 of first gate receipts. the city erupts with excitement as the news breaks.

Ted Mathews 30 and Ira Whetstine conductor are hospitalized in serious condition. The wreck involves the Northern Traction tracks used by the Cleveland Alliance Mahoning Valley Railway Co. on a Cleveland bound freight run.
Police found Charles F. Cameron, 32, machinist from Jamestown Pa, dead in a Youngstown hotel room last night. He held a photo of his wife with the inscription a good girl for a rot ter, and a Lysol vial was involved.

Custody was awarded to Hazel Hooten in a recent divorce decree granting visitation rights. The father allegedly took the child during a visit and did not return prompting the warrant and arrest.
Columbus reports 1,000 inmates admitted to the Ohio penitentiary for the year ending June 30 1923. Of these 693 were first time prisoners. ten counties sent none. Cuyahoga led with 279 inmates followed by Hamilton and Lucas with 68 each. Racial breakdown shows 530 white Americans 306 Black and 156 white foreigners.
The county commissioners postponed decisions on bridges at Fast Sparta and Navarre plus improvements to Whipple Road until Friday. They may abandon all projects for a time if a course of action cannot be determined.

Phil B. Smythe 45 longtime prosecutor and city solicitor died suddenly in a Dayton hotel from acute alcoholism. He had served as a Ku Klux Klan attorney and represented the group at trials in Springfield and Minneapolis. Police and the coroner investigated his movements from his Newark home to the hotel.
A 13 year old recent immigrant helped deliver a bottle of moonshine in a single liquor sale. Steve Zalac was fined $1000 for selling the liquor under the Volstead act by Judge A. W. Agler. Melie Kristov received the maximum juvenile court fine for contributing to delinquency but cannot pay and may be jailed to work it off.

Lausanne July 3 Turkish debt and concession issues remained at the Near East peace conference. Plenary sessions settled most topics but evacuation of Turkish troops loomed as a key problem. Turkish representatives refused to discuss reparations and continued negotiating a debt settlement, proposing interest payments in France’s currency at pre war rates.
Hardwick Vermont suffered a major fire that destroyed several buildings in the business district and left fifteen families homeless. The blaze caused about 150000 in damage and prompted alerts from nearby towns. Company D of the National Guard from St Johnsbury and additional units were mobilized.

Harrison Higginbothan aged 34, married with two children, died at the sanitarium from injuries after a car traveling from Utica Ohio to Newark collided with another vehicle, throwing him into a ditch. The accident occurred early today in Newark.
City council boosts pay for municipal workers with a retroactive raise from July 1, project pending for all departments. A 10 percent rise for under 110 dollars monthly and 6 percent for above, plus a 10 cent hourly bump for garbage and sanitation staff. Mayor urges uniform grades and truck-driver classification.

Miss Mary Wheeler a 23 year old bookkeeper was to be arraigned on two charges of forgery in police court Columbus after her arrest for issuing forged checks totaling 5000 against Columbus Barrel and Cooperage Co where she worked and its manager Jacob Mattlin. She allegedly confessed and said the funds bought a car and clothes with the rest deposited in her bank account.
Elmer Austin, condemned to be hanged for the murder of Wheeling patrolman Herman Bartels, was granted a ninety day stay of execution today by Governor Morgan. The reprieve came after his aged mother's personal plea.
