Canton readies a large public celebration with 50000 flags and bands to honor soldiers past and present. The event marks the nation’s 143rd anniversary since the Declaration of Independence and vows to honor those who served in the military in defense of liberty and democracy.
All veterans of the world war and sailors are asked to meet promptly at nine oclock Friday morning at the auditorium. Herve W. Miner of the Canton Post, American Legion, will command the parade corps forming for the Fourth of July celebration. About 1 000 volunteers are needed from the 3 000 veterans in Canton for the parade.
Major Herve W. Miner announced the parade will feature flexible uniforms for veterans. Soldiers may wear any outfit as long as it is worn correctly with options including shirts without coats and black string ties, or coats. Overseas caps or campaign hats are permitted and nonuniform veterans are urged to join the march.
Waiting for the parade to start at 9:30 a.m. soldiers form in Market at Sixth Street, inspected by the land marshal. They march in platoons of four squads with five paces between, eyes right at the reviewing stand. Red Cross women await at the grand stand to pin city medals before disbanding.
The forecast shows continued warm conditions tonight and Friday for Obie. A low near 68 degrees and a high around 97 are noted with light winds and no significant precipitation.
Dr Anna Howard Shaw honorary president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association dies at her Moylan home after pneumonia attack. She was 71, chaired the women’s committee of the Council of National Defense, and recently received the Distinguished Service Medal for war work. Her secretary Lucy Anthony and two nieces were at her bedside.

John Wilson Company won 29292.80 for Louisville Freeburg road section one, Elmer Vogt Paving 61104.91 for Section D, and Mahn Construction 19559.95 for Beach City Strasboro road. The R-34 dirigible traveling westward across the mid Atlantic remained ahead of fog banks and slowed pace from initial speed of more than 40 miles per hour. By 9 a.m. Greenwich time she was 1,500 miles from England, about 52.50 N, 34.30 W, with General Seeley noting she was 835 miles east of St John’s, N. F., at 6 a.m. local time. The airship was expected to reach America by tomorrow, weather permitting.
New York reports the British dirigible R-34 will receive a light lunch on arrival at Roosevelt Field Mineola. The airship requires 1 600 000 cubic feet of hydrogen stored in 8 000 tanks along the field, 6 000 gallons of gasoline 500 gallons of oil and water to sustain its voyage.
Reports say the airship drifted at 35 miles per hour at 2000 feet above the west coast of Ireland before descending into fog and rising again. Major Scott said weather reports were in touch with Ponta Delgada St Johns and Clifden as Tiger and Renown stood by and the Hh 34 was also in the scene.

The fast French scout type plane brought to Canton by Lieut Walter Pack has its final assembly completed after transit. The motor was tested and fuel filled for an ascent tomorrow. Lieut Pack and Lieut BK Stevens led the assembly with care, crating fragile wings and packing wheels rods and propeller blades separately for transit. The fuselage assembled and motor positioned, wheels attached, and blades secured in preparation for flight.
