Canton board of education approves a 1930 budget totaling 2 657 750 50 for the schools up from 2 613 226 85 last year. Receipts are projected at 2 226 755 14 with expenditures at 2 130 400, and the unencumbered balance noted for the coming year.
Bobby Jones returns to Atlanta after winning the National Open for the third time. The city will greet him informally with a police band, the mayor, and friends, with no parade. Governor Scott Hudson notes Bobby will choose his own welcome. The Georgia House adopted a resolution congratulating the champion.
Newcomerstown July 2 residents report Floyd Crater and wife and daughters Opal and Mary of Cleveland as weekend guests of Mrs. Crater’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Tipton on North College Street. They left Sunday for Newark New Jersey to visit Floyd Crater’s brother Eugene who lies in a hospital after an automobile accident with several ribs broken.
Beverly Hills notes say golfer A Espinosa died in a weekend accident after tying Bobby Jones and attempting a playoff. The spoof caption claims he met Jones when his putter was working as a note in a Will Rogers special.
Ruth Bloomfield 38 of 511 Tremont SW died in Massillon City Hospital from injuries after the taxi she rode in overturned on the Massillon McDonaldsville road Sunday night. Driver Paul Malzahn 818 Walnut SW was detained but expected to be released after questioning. Passenger Ernest Ber 49 of 321 2d St SW was injured and also hospitalized. he said Malzahn was not at fault.
Sixteen teens injured when nine cars of the Rock Island flier derailed west of Des Moines. None seriously harmed. four taken to hospitals for observation. Cars overturned. emergency seating provided as passengers resumed travel. Fireworks display area noted near a Canton storage facility and new medical offices announce openings on 204 6th St NW with contact numbers.
Carl Mahan the six year old boy who killed Cecil Van Hoose in a scrap iron dispute will be paroled to the Kentucky Children’s Bureau which may place him in an institution or with a responsible family. County Judge J W Butcher set aside a 15 year reformatory sentence after a delinquency charge. Attorney John W Wheeler plans to oppose moving the boy from parental custody.
Senator Reed of Pennsylvania objects to placing Mexican immigration on the quota basis at this time. He warns it could trigger serious international and diplomatic difficulties and praises Hoover and Morrow for successful Latin American diplomacy. Reed aligns with the president on this issue.
The Buenos Aires Rotary Club installed Dr Clodomiro Zavalia as its new president at the Plaza Hotel. The meeting also paid tribute to the men who effected the Tacas Arica treaty between Chile and Peru, removing a major regional problem.
Four of Spain's top flyers, rescued from the sea after a long Arctic search for the Italia, returned to land aboard the British carrier Eagle near the Azores. Enthusiastic crowds, spanning provinces, cheered as Franco and companions walked the gangplank, with crew and Britons aboard sharing in the homecoming celebration.
New York officials blamed safety rule violations for the death of flyer Wilmer Stultz and two passengers after two left shoes found jammed under the rudder bar. The cockpit incident led to a falling leaf maneuver that could not be recovered, killing all aboard. Stultz died at Nassau Hospital after the crash.
Ten year old Sanges Lupe died when a flower box broke as she climbed out a third floor window while her parents Peter and Petra Lupe were at work. The tragedy occurred in Chicago on July 2.
The state banking department in Columbus issued a call for the condition of all state supervised banks as of June 20 with a 10 day turnaround. In Washington the comptroller of currency called for the condition of national banks as of June 29.
Tulsa police released a nine year old boy who confessed that he fired a gun while hanging clothes, killing his grandmother Mrs. Mary Gillard. He said the weapon went off accidentally after being pointed from the basement window.
Alonso Souleigh Parham a two year old Chicago Negro joined 308 plebes at the United States Military Academy in West Point New York. He was sworn in on the parade ground becoming the first Negro to enter since 1918 and was placed in an individual room. Twenty two Negroes have entered the academy with only three graduates. Parham was appointed by Congressman from Illinois Oxcar de Priest.
James Swires of Northern Ohio Power and Light and Orts Fry of Canton Wet Wash Laundry face 2000 bond after a Monday crash near North Canton that killed Mrs. Kate Greaves and left seven injured. Coroner McQuate ordered the bond to ensure a formal inquest. Paul Greaves travels from Detroit as funeral plans begin. Seven injured. one may lose a leg.
Capone nicknamed Scarface will star as pitcher for the Holmesburg prison baseball team this summer. Attorneys failed to gain release via writ of supersedeas, postponed to October. An appeal for a new trial will be heard by the seven superior court judges then.

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church leader Y. Piastiades says Mayor Curtis and Councilmen approved a traveling carnival permit despite a city ban. The carnival, arranged to aid church fundraising, earned $750 but faced police action as concessions were closed and the venue left Canton.
The will of late Ambassador Myron T. Herrick filed for probate in Cleveland names Parmley Herrick as executor and main beneficiary. The estate is valued at 1 200 000 with bequests totaling 90 000 to three individuals. The Wellington Public Library in Wellington Ohio receives 70 000 and the American Hospital at Paris 15 000. A 50 000 endowment funds a new children's wing. Mortimer H. Laundon Rollin A. Wilbur and Union Trust Co. named alternate executors.
