Paris crowds hailed Commander Richard E. Byrd, Bert Acosta, and companions as they arrived from Caen and entered the Continental Hotel. Doctors ordered Byrd and Acosta to bed for Sunday after examinations found severe shock. they placed a wreath at the tomb of the unknown warrior.
Detective Ora M. Slater, head of the Don R. Mellett murder case, will drop other work to return to Canton for prep ahead of the Lengel trial set to begin July 11. Prosecutor Henry W. The Canton Daily See staged a third annual Pet Parade at Nimisila park drawing hundreds of pets and over 19 000 spectators. Dogs led with boys in clown outfits and cats with girls in fairy costumes as judges deferred final prizes.
Two hundred marines are being mobilized at the Marine Corps Base San Diego for immediate transport to the China crisis. The first 109 men depart Monday from Los Angeles to board a liner to Shanghai, with a second contingent slated to leave July 18. Unofficial reports say additional air units may be sent. seven plane squadrons are currently on duty in the Far East.
In Queens a two hour speech last night Senator Heflin of Alabama said Protestants of America will prevent popery from reaching the White House, arguing Governor Al Smith cannot win the presidency.

Clarence D Chamberlin announced at an Interallied club luncheon in Paris that he would fly his trans Atlantic plane to London Wednesday. After touring England he plans to dismantle the craft for shipment aboard the Leviathan with Charles A Levine for the return voyage.
In Schenectady on July 2 a man believed to be John Dempsey, son of former heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey, shot and killed his wife Edna then fatally shot himself. Edna, 21, had separated from her husband and lived in the city for several months.
Former Senator Robert Owen of Oklahoma urged a political alliance between Democrats and progressive Republicans. He said both groups share aims of organized righteousness in government, industrial justice, and prosperity for all, not just the privileged few.
Richard Grace the dare-devil aviator prepared to launch a trans Pacific hop from Kauai to the mainland as dawn broke. Weather favored the flight and Grace hinted he would aim somewhere in California, piloting a Ryan monoplane akin to Lindberghs Spirit of St Louis.
Bluffton July 2. Plants and property of the Storer Brothers, a major produce and commission house in northwestern Ohio, were sold at a receiver sale to Thomas Tighe of Ada for $31 611. The assets were appraised at 47 000 including plants at Bluffton Ada and Kalida.
Albert Saide faced a jury in Judge Kirchbaum's room after taking Nicholas Libretoir and his daughter Virginia to a Youngstown area picnic. The verdicts awarded $84 59 to Libretoir's estate and $1,909 to the daughter for injuries, while the crash killing Libretoir was attributed to Saide's reckless driving.
In Los Angeles on July 2 the divorce dispute between Charles Chaplin and his estranged wife Lita Grey Chaplin escalates with lengthy court filings. Mrs Grey defends her conduct, accuses Chaplin of jealousy and cruelty, and disputes his accusations of infidelity and extravagance.
