Amelia Rudy of 936 Dueber gw is confined at home with a neck wound from a gun misfire. Seventeen year old William Colson, her stepson, reportedly discharged the weapon Sunday after showing it to his father and stepmother. The boy did not know the gun was loaded.
A box car incident on the Pennsylvania railroad at Orrville early today left H E Minnick a two year conductor from Orrville dead after his legs were mangled under wheels. He died at Mercy hospital where both victims were amputated. His parents Mr and Mrs H D Minnick reside at 1001 17th Street NW.
Two automobiles collided on the Canton Mas road near Mt Marie at 8 o clock Sunday. Mrs George Smith of Waynesville was thrown to the pavement and sustained a scalp wound about the head and neck.
County commissioners on Monday opened two bids for remodeling the courthouse south side to add new rooms. Iles E Bowen of Clevelanday bid 2485.70 and J W Walter of 14th W bid 2062.50. The contract was to be let that afternoon with enclosed glass and woodwork balconies and new room entrances cut through walls of the probate court and commission.
Washington July 2 The crop reporting board of the bureau of crop estimates of the U S department of agriculture reports from correspondents and agents that the 1917 area under cultivation in the United States is about 34 600 000 acres a drop from the revised acreage a year ago by 1 452 000 acres or four percent

A U S collier armed for Foreign Service fought two German submarines near an American port. The vessel, circling to avoid torpedoes, exchanged fire with a U boat as a French steamer carrying American troops passed by. An American torpedo boat destroyer intervened and the submersible submarine submerged. The collier was convoyed by French and American warships en route from France.
An Italian hydroplane dropped two bombs at a submarine that had attacked a large Italian liner near the Italian coast. The liner, with hundred plus passengers, could not fire on the submarine due to escort risk. Some steerage passengers included Greek sailors from Dorothea.
Columbus July 2 Seven state oil inspectors were overpaid by 226 dollars and many underpaid due to faulty bookkeeping in a ten page report by State Auditor Vic Donahey on J M Carr who left two years as state oil inspector. Donahey also found 31 dollars for Carrs personal telephone bills paid by the estate and said examiners spent two weeks reviewing records that should have taken only hours.
