A fatal accident in the Sandy River results in the deaths of Homer Carnes and Willi Brown. The following events describe the incident and responders at the scene.
Four companions were trapped when a rescue attempt failed at the Sandy River near the State dam two miles east of Bolivar. The drowned are Troy P. NW and William E. Brown. Edward Leighley H F Lesh and Adrian Miller also perished after being swept into the whirlpool as a truck and boat mishap escalated. Survivors include Brown’s wife Elizabeth and son Donald. Carnes’s wife Rula Kathreen and four children.
A Cincinnati appeal court ruled Harmatta spot welding patents invalid in the Thompson Spot Welder Co. versus Ford case. The decision affirms a Toledo federal judge and involves about 500 manufacturers through the Welding Patents Association. If valid, royalties could total over $50 million.
Chicago July 1 Thousands of workers on major U S railroads stop work as wage cuts totaling about 134 million dollars take effect. Six standard unions join the action led by B M Jewell of the railway employes department. Jewell evades a Railway Labor Board conference as the strike unfolds.
A Friday conference led by Judge Ake Sheriff Cathon and Assistant Prosecutor McClintock resulted in releasing several Crabbead violators from the workhouse. Each inmate faces fines of 1000 dollars. full payment would require over four years. Some have paid 500 dollars, others near a year served, and employers intervened in several cases. Judge Ake warned against setting a precedent and said cases would be judged individually.
Police Chief Lengel led a city wide cleanup begun during his vacation, arresting seven suspects including Anna Economonas and Roxie Warner on suspicion charges. In London on July 1 the two assassins of Field Marshall Sir Henry Hughes Wilson admitted their earlier names were aliases. They claimed their real names were Reginald Dun and Joseph O'Sullivan and stated London as their home, showing a nonchalant attitude in court.

Councilman William F. Hobush said the council plans a conference with Northern Ohio Traction & Light Co. manager A. C. Blinn in Akron to press for this year’s construction of the northeast end street car line. The committee seeks tracks on 13th Street NE or alternative routing through Cherry Ave NE and Gibbs Ave NE, and notes eminent domain may be used if the company rejects 13th Street. The outcome will be reported to council within a week.
Police investigate the case of Frank F Haberlein, 923 Peckhamgt, who was found unconscious on a sidewalk near 184 Castoraway and died at Peoples hospital. Haberlein, married with several children, worked for B F Goodrich Co. Edwin Wright of 145 Granday is hospitalized with a fractured arm after a bus collision with a telephone pole at South Maple and Baldists.
Several thousand small bass were placed in the Maumee and Auglaize rivers by S. L. Blake state fish and game protector who maintained headquarters in Defiance. The action aims to support fish populations and regional waterways.
