About 30 men at the Tuscarawas Street power house of the N O T threaten to strike at 8 a m Tuesday unless a general wage increase is granted. They cite current pay as insufficient and seek higher rates for engineers firemen water tenders and other crew.
Mrs. George H. Gould, wealth and charity figure, invites Belgian refugees to dinner after meeting violin and cello players Harry De Rudder and wife with six year old Madeleine. The family fled Antwerp, arrived penniless, and will stay with Gould until De Rudder secures work in a New York orchestra.
Paris reports a German Zeppelin raid with bombs that damaged the subway and toppled buildings. Official statements say no damage, but deaths from Saturday’s raid rise to 3, with 20 wounded. President Poincare visited the affected district as air battles raged overhead.

In Liverpool on Saturday night the liner Philadelphia was seriously damaged in a collision with the English ship Ben Lee. The ship’s band played lively tunes to calm passengers who rushed to the decks, and officers spoke reassuringly. Some passengers booked passage on other ships, while others stayed in Liverpool for repairs.
The Zettler Realty Co announced the purchase of a 106 lot tract near Aultman hospital for 100000 dollars. The development, in heart of the new west side area, will lead to rental housing and an allotment sale. Buyers include Harrison H. and Washington B. Shanafelt. A second option on 50 acres west of Canton Sheet Steel Co was reported at 600 dollars per acre.
Six coast guard and naval vessels search the foggy Atlantic from Virginia capes to beyond Charleston for the K-5 submarine missing since Sunday after detaching from the Tallahassee. Commanded by Lieut R C Brady the vessel carries a crew of eighteen and a junior lieutenant. Officials hope for a safe return despite no word since 1 am Sunday.
N J Pittmann reports Mrs E H Gardner an artist known for feline paintings became blind just as she completed her thousandth cat portrait. She had devoted her career to painting cats and achieved a notable milestone before the loss of sight.
