Born November 12, 1836 in Jefferson County, he served 1861–64 in Company F, Fourth U. S. Volunteer Infantry. Co A Dorland of 2204 14th street SW pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in a crimi nal court arraignment before Judge J A Bows ran. A hear ing is set for Wednesday with a $2 600 bond. Dorland, alleged to have been intoxicated, drove the automobile that struck five year old John Johnstone, son of Mr and Mrs Abraham Johnson, as he stood before his home. Johnstone died at Aultman hospital Sunday night. Police say the car left the street and hit the boy, crashing into a tree. Dorland, via attorney H C Pontius, claimed he swung to the curb to avoid another child. Funeral services are set for 3 pm Wednesday at the home, Rev Conner officiating, burial in Westlawn.
