Griffiths was named chairman as officers advanced and policy relief continued from the low economic base. Road crews fought snow drifts in a 36 hour effort as Canton and surrounding areas faced record cold with temperatures plunging to eight below zero, and a mission reported beds and lodging for 27 people.
A fire at the Kelley hotel in Woodlanday drove 800 roomers into zero degree streets. Flames caused about 100000 in damage. fourteen fire companies battled the blaze and two other structures, including Pearl Road Methodist Church, suffered near total destruction. A cold wave set a Canton record as thermometer plunged to eight degrees below zero.
A telecast from Cincinnati claims Common Pleas Judge Robert Patterson of Dayton was arrested for violating city laws. He allegedly was found drunk in a bathtub at the Linton hotel with whiskey in room 402 and pleaded guilty at North Bend with trial set for next Wednesday.

Alliance police were alerted Thursday night to aid in the search for Olin Brown of Salem missing since Wednesday afternoon. Relatives fear foul play. Last seen wearing a green and white lumberjacks shirt and driving a Star automobile. Police seek information about Brown and his whereabouts.
