William Slusser seventy nine of Canton died after a fall on an icy sidewalk on the public square Tuesday. He was admitted to the county infirmary Tuesday morning and later transferred to Mercy hospital where his condition grew serious and he never regained consciousness. Coroner Douds will investigate.

Washington January 25 Hadfield Limited of England will not be allowed by the British government to fulfill a United States contract for shell manufacture during the war. The navy department had awarded Hadfield 4500 fourteen inch armor piercing shells and 3000 sixteen inch shells on January 17, but Britain refused to permit performance. Secretary Daniels said he would study the reasons. officials see U S armor plate interests at play and suspect U S manufacturers influenced the British firm to withdraw so American rivals could profit from a higher bid.
Detectives search for a Black man tied to the killing of Margaret Bledsoe a wealthy widow found battered in Samuel House’s basement. Her skull was crushed with a hatchet a strap around her throat and her clothes torn. She allegedly carried large sums of money on her person and in a trunk which the killer rifled.
