Coblenz January 23 The American flag over Ehrenbreitstein will be hauled down at noon tomorrow as the U S occupation force on the Rhine sails for Antwerp aboard the transport St Mihiel. French guards will honor the Americans as they depart and upon U S arrival in the United States married men under staff sergeant will be honorably discharged unless exceptions apply. The German population mourns the doughboys end of their long stay.
Former Stark-Co Army Officer who spent a year on the Rhine observes Germany’s reparations issue and argues American business practice favors giving an honest debtor a chance to pay. He notes French and Belgian actions and questions policy, suggesting the German effort may be sincere. Continued on page 3, col. 5.

A new so called Social Protective Society allegedly bands bootleggers with a password and hailing sign. Federal agent William McCay attempts to arrest a Bronx saloon keeper, who uses embossed stationery to claim protection. The group, active since October, netted at least two leaders about $2000 weekly from cafe owners.
Mrs. Catherine OGrady of Canton is among seven contestants in a New York suit seeking to break the will of Philip Smith worth 500000. The case alleges neighbors aided the elderly plumber in shaping a will during his paralysis with a hand pressure and an X mark guided by an attorney.
In Mansfield on January 23, Mrs. Stella Jukich underwent plastic surgery to restore the tip of her nose, bitten off during an altercation with her husband Eli Jukich after a chocolate gift at her factory. Jukich allegedly forbade her return to work. she insisted and the nose injury was addressed. Surgeons expect improved appearance.
The McKinley Club meets in new Moose Club rooms to finalize plans for the annual McKinley Day banquet on Monday January 29 at the Courtland hotel. Tickets are $1.25 and sellers should report at the meeting. Joe Mitchell Chapple will address the event and Congressman Joseph H. Himes will serve as toastmaster.
Miss Pauline Coldren daughter of former County Treasurer Fremont A Coldren was named operator by the county commissioners to run the new telephone exchange. It will be in operation by February 1 and will unify county building phones with eight trunk lines and connections to all county offices through the main switchboard.
Announcement from Columbus reports Major John C. Volka of London named assistant adjutant general of Ohio. The pay is $3,500. Volka has five years in the adjutant-general department and was chief clerk before promotion. In unrelated ads, square dress trunks go on sale at 8.75 to 22.50 and steamer sizes from 8.50 up.

Ed Diemund former chief of Wheeling and Lake Erie police pleaded guilty to burglary and larceny before Judge Krrchbaum and was sentenced to seven to fifteen years in the Ohio State penitentiary. Karl Starks testified against him after turning state's evidence detailing the December 24 burglary at Sabb Brothers store, listing participants and loot divided into six piles.
Mary Parker sues The Royal Indemnity Co in common pleas for $15,000. She had won a judgment against The Fred R. Jones Co for injuries from a Hast Creek retaining wall collapse. The indemnity firm signed the appeal bond. the verdict was affirmed but no payment was made. Attorneys: John T. Blake and D Daniela.
George Pelay of Canton is named as defendant in a $25 000 personal injury suit filed in common pleas court by Herschel R. McVay. Plaintiff says he was struck by the defendant’s car at Howard and West Markets on April 27.
Two auto bandits robbed Irving National bank messengers today as they transported fifty thousand dollars from Pitkin Avenue Brooklyn to an Irving branch. The robbery occurred in a sparsely settled Brooklyn neighborhood. After taking the money the bandits forced the messengers from their car and ordered them to raise their hands before fleeing.
A twelve man gang in a large motor truck raided a downtown liquor firm in Chicago, kidnapping a watchman and a newsboy before fleeing with six hundred cases of whiskey valued at about seventy five thousand dollars. The bandits forced entry through a stone wall and opened a steel vault to steal the liquor while most carried pistols. The victims escaped and reported the crime.
In Coblenz on January 23 Fritz Thyssen and fellow prisoners, bound for Mayence for trial, hailed three cheers for the Americans as doughboys lined the roadway. The U S troops returned the cheer, creating a moment of mutual applause in the American occupation zone.

He spoke before nearly 300 delegates at the fourth annual Ohio Pastors association convention in Columbus. The gathering will conclude tomorrow.
A new national marriage and divorce law was introduced in the senate by Senator Arthur Capper of Kansas. The measure seeks to tighten divorce standards and curb hasty marriages through a constitutional amendment proposal.
