A boiler explosion on the cruiser San Diego off Guaymas, Mexico, killed four sailors and injured nine after completing four hour full power trials. The San Diego, flagship of the Pacific fleet, cost six million dollars and bears a long service record. Full investigation ordered and dead and injured lists forwarded to the Bureau of Navigation.

In New York on January 22 Gen Stork delayed a Brooklyn Rapid Transit train for 45 minutes to visit Mrs Anne Schulthoff. A seven and a half pound baby girl was born aboard the train to the amusement of onlookers and arriving ambulance surgeons. The mother and child were taken to hospital and are reported doing well.
