The bill appropriates 1000000 for immediate beginning of public works to enable any city state or federal agency lacking funds to go ahead with public work now or at any future time when extraordinary unemployment exists.

A would‑be robber confronted by William Derischer during a break in. weights were hurled at the attacker and a pistol pointed, forcing the man to flee as he reached toward the money box. Derischer halted the crime as the suspect fled from the doorway.
Washington dispatch quotes the Lemberg Neue Freie Presse saying Lemberg has fallen to Ukrainian forces after bombardment started January 1, with the claim transmitted to the state department this afternoon.

Larry Toal twenty eight was attacked and clubbed to death by a gang of foreigners early Tuesday morning near Eighteenth street and Duckeray SW. The body was found before 6 am and police arrested three men shortly after 8 am. Detectives questioned suspects in the chief’s office as officers sought more leads to round up the murderers.

Council on Monday narrowly rejected a garbage investigation report with eight votes against adoption and one for. Hoberdier, the dissenting councilman, urged adoption citing lack of new recommendations and funds.
