Dalton High, bragging of a strong team, misses a scheduled basketball clash with Doylestown due to a washed out bridge and a five hour blackout from a storm. A scrimmage was held in Dalton while the lights were out.
Canton will gain a new municipal airport linking the city to a nationwide air network. A shuttle line to Cleveland and Columbus will connect Canton to major U S cities as bonds and contracts are arranged. Initial steps include a Canton Akron Cleveland line followed by a Cleveland Pittsburgh route.
Edward Kaltenbaugh’s lawyers John F. Gorsuch and Carl F. Klein travel to Pennsylvania to study his life history and record. They will interview family near Grove City and probe past forgery imprisonment and a farm truck theft near Sharon. Arraignment set for Monday at 9 before Judge Agler.
United Press reports a major quake struck Cumana Venezuela causing about 200 deaths and 1,000 injuries. Gov Jose Garbi asked for relief as the city housing 12,000 people was leveled after a series of quakes. Government and Cross aid mobilized with free transport and telegraph services for relatives.
In Steubenville Ohio on January 19 police raided four bootlegger joints missed by federal raiders. Four proprietors Thomas James Tony Gallagher Thomas Chalfant and Sylvester Frankhouser of the Places were charged with violating state barred doors law and bound over to the grand jury as 30 suspects boarded a train to Columbus for federal arraignment.
In a New York dispatch dated January 19, Al Smith secures a bank job and plans a Florida vacation. Herbert Hoover meets with many officials about cabinet concerns while Sandino and Peggy Joyce are noted. Hoover will travel to Florida on Monday to draw straws for his cabinet. If California cannot land Coolidge after March 4, consolation is suggested with Aimee and Ben Turpin.

Deputy John E. Kiener interrupted an alleged kidnapping at No 1 school in Chippewa township near Orrville. A man Hollie Horner 22 Barberton was arrested after being found with a girl. the student is a Doylestown High sophomore visiting the school. Roy Smith Barberton was questioned and released with a Monday court appearance required.
Charles Hanna father of Junior Hanna and the latter’s playmate Melvin Horst, missing 4 year old from Orrville, were questioned and released. Junior Hanna remains held on $500 bond at Wayne County Children's Home as detectives probe the case. The Ohio Detective Bureau began swamp searches near Orrville and Wooster for the missing boy.
Don Buckey Harris a city fire department member is in Mercy Hospital in critical condition with a five inch knife wound to the neck. Stewart Weimer was arrested after allegedly stabbing Harris during a party at 401 Newton Ave NW and admitted to cutting Harris over jealousy involving Mrs Harris. He said he found them together and struck her in the face before pursuing Harris to the rear porch.
Mrs. Anna Purcella of North Industry testified before Justice Donald Smyth about four unnamed foreign men who allegedly dragged her into a car as she waited for a bus. The restraint occurred near Shock's Mill, but she could not identify the attackers by name. Deputy sheriffs Ball and Hibaugh transported her to the county jail for investigation.
Otto C. Wingart of 305 Harrison NW and Samuel F. Pace of 227 21st NW were injured when Wingart’s auto struck a hog on the Lincoln Highway west of Dalton. The car overturned into a truck driven by J. B. Bush of Mansfield. Wingart suffered a broken left arm and Pace head lacerations. Wingart was taken home by Arnold’s ambulance after treatment. Pace was sent to Mercy Hospital. Bush was uninjured.
R Waldo Gibbons former general manager of Wilcox Co broker faces grand larceny charges after Miss Selma Hall reports a $1000 bond she entrusted to the firm was sold by Gibbons. A bankruptcy hearing is noted for the firm as well.
A Friday night tornado cut a path across five states, killing 11 and damaging Hills and Dales in the Canton area. The storm lashed the region for over two hours, snapping trees and downing poles as rain and lightning swept streets and rural roads. Power and telephone crews worked through the night, with restoration extended into Saturday.
Stanley Jones of 1334 7th St NW was arrested by Patrolman H O West after colliding with a telephone pole in front of Northern Ohio Power and Light Co car barns in Tuscarawas St W. He allegedly confessed to the crash and was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Four men were arrested in Ravenna today in connection with the murders of Pete Gallo and his wife Lena at their home, ending a feud within a tri county bootlegging ring over price cutting. Sheriff J R Ferry said the slain couple were killed by two gunmen posing as friends who entered the Gallo home, then opened fire. Gallo was shot six times and Lena died after being rushed to a hospital. a coworker, Joseph Roneato, escaped through a rear door. The gunmen also fired at Roneato, who fled, while Ferry noted the killers aimed to silence witnesses. The Gallos leave two children Patsy and Pauline. Gallo had clashed with law enforcement recently over liquor dispensing.
Wilbur O Heldman, freed of a murder charge in the death of his wife Margaret, applied to county officials for her property held during the investigation. He asked for the wedding ring, a photo album, and a blue chinchilla coat with a bullet hole, plus the .380 caliber pistol used in the killings.
Digging into the fallen entrance of the east room of the United States Coal Co mine at Bradley, workmen sought Pal Nick, 32, trapped since Thursday night under rock. Little hope is held for his survival as efforts continue.
Wilbur O Heldman, freed of murdering his wife, paid in advance for his baby Emmett Heldman's board at the Children's Bureau. A F E Howell said Heldman discussed future plans and cooperates with the bureau in caring for the child.
Senate caucus returns to closed session to press the nomination of Interior Secretary West. A confirmation vote was expected before night if opponents permit after hours of blocking debate. The West affair dominates proceedings while other issues such as the naval cruiser bill and Mellon prohibition questions recede.
City officials will not bring an ordinance to buy the Hesburg road site for a municipal airport Monday. The city engineer is surveying two farms and a title search is under way, all to confirm size and ownership before any purchase measure is introduced. City Solicitor James E. Kinnison said action depends on the findings.
