Mayor Stanford M. Swarts said he would sign the appropriation ordinance to fund a full time safety director, despite council inaction on his written request. The measure awaits county budget commission approval and next week's council action.

Police say she admitted arsenic poisoning of seven husband John Ebert and pastor William Christy. If lunacy is found the case goes to Lima State Hospital for the criminal insane.

State prohibition commissioner B F McDonald spent a brief visit in Canton on Tuesday during a trip to East Liverpool where he planned to speak that evening. He said he would return to Columbus after the East Liverpool address.
Rudolph Valentino and Sophie Tucker left Southampton aboard the Leviathan for New York. Tucker canceled engagements in England due to her mother's illness. A divorce from Valentino was granted to Mrs. Valentino on grounds of desertion, admissible in Indiana where the couple wed.

The council filed Mayor Swarts request for a safety director position with a 5000 annual salary. It approved Auditor Barr income estimates from non tax sources at 4090074 versus 915000. It authorized welfare hospital expenditures, old No 2 hose house use, and bid ads for a city truck. It passed note authorization for 72300 and approved several paving and sewer projects in Marion, Park, Cresmont, Girard avenues and Belden to improve streets and utilities.
