Five children die in arson and family quarrel in New York
In Binghamton New York five children aged 2 to 13 died from suffocation as a quarrel between their parents sparked a blaze in their home. County cannot grant land for new state armory
The county tells commissioners it cannot give the state land for an armory site. A committee seeking the armory location was denied use of part of the workhouse land on Mahoning Road east of West Creek. The board says the land can only be sold at public auction to the highest bidder, and the state will not purchase ground as a gift. Bull locked in barn fasted for 36 days
In Bercail Montana on January 17 a Hereford bull owned by Carl Burke of Zercall was found in a deserted barn after straying from the herd. The animal entered the barn and apparently shut the door behind it. Without food or water for 26 days the bull became a skeleton but is believed to recover.
